Period really weird?
Okay so I am in a serious relationship and my boyfriend and I have sex often. We always use condoms but I'm not yet on birth control. Anyways, past month my period was two days early, and in between my two periods this month I began to bleed pretty heavily for four straight days. I had to use tampons even, and there were clots just like a normal period. And now my period is 4 days late this month. Normally my period is 8 days long with 22 days in between, making my cycle 30 days long. But I took two at home pregnancy tests(both were negative) and I went to the doctor yesterday to ask about the problem and get started on birth control. She didn't really calm my concerns at all, but she had me take a pregnancy test there (that also came out negative) and got me started on birth control, which I'm supposed to start the Sunday after my period, but it has yet to start. I guess I'm just wondering if I have a reason to be concerned or what could be happening? Also I heard if you check your cervix you could tell what part of the cycle your in. My cervix was low and hard yesterday now today its high and soft. Lots of information but I'm just desperately looking for help. -
I'm a little confused.
Are you saying that you started near the first of the month, run an 8 day cycle, then maybe a week or two later had four days of bleeding, which wasn't in line with your cyclic pattern, and now you are four days late? Are you basing being late from the first of the month and not counting the four days of bleeding?in between my two periods this month I began to bleed pretty heavily for four straight days. I had to use tampons even, and there were clots just like a normal period. And now my period is 4 days late this month. -
Sorry I wasn't very clear
Oh sorry for the confusion, I had my last period at the end of last month, my period ended on the 28th. I was supposed to get my period this month on the 22nd, but I have yet to get it. I just don't know if the random four day bleeding threw off my period or what happened.Comment

Thanks, that helps. Yes, I think the random four days have thrown your cycle off. Without knowing when the four random days occurred, you could call your doctor's office and ask them what they recommend you do, or you could go ahead and start the pills on Sunday. You may have some break through bleeding before you get to the placebo pills because your hormones are being forced into a new cycle. After taking the pills for a couple of months things should level off and produce predictable onset of your cycle.Comment

I'd wait another week and take another pregnancy test. If anything it was probably too early to test anyway. At least then you know you can probably rule out pregnancy. I would wait until you have your period to start your pills or you can really put your cycle out of whack. Listen to the doctor and wait until the sunday that you have your period.Comment

This is one of my " Pet Peeves ".
DR's not spending time with patients .. Grrr
Do exactly as the Dr. said, wait until your period starts , take the pill on the Sunday after your period starts, not after it Ends. Keep Notes of when it starts, how long it lasts and any symptoms that do not seem Normal to you.I went to the doctor yesterday to ask about the problem and get started on birth control. She didn't really calm my concerns at all, but she had me take a pregnancy test there (that also came out negative)
Use Condoms until you have followed one full cycle of pills.Your Period may take up to 6 months to regulate to where you can basically know the day you will start . Remember that your body and cycle change as you get older and also due to stress and other reasons.
When I was 16-22, my periods were 7 days long, 1 light flow day, 4 heavy flow days and 2 light days. After age 22 they would vary from 5-7 days. Age 24 and on, I had 4 day periods ( not on any Pill either ). 1 light day, 2 medium flow and another light flow. although there were a few times I had 6 day flows or even 3 day flows. This was usually after I gave birth, it would take almost a year to Regulate .
This continued until Menopause ( age 42-44 ). I am now almost 60.
The key here is Communication and keeping Notes. While it is the Dr's responsibility to educate you on what to expect.. It is also Your responsibility to ask Questions, share any Concerns with your Dr.
Try not to worry, your body is changing, Pills can reflect changes. Use Protection until you are sure your Pills are working and in your system at the proper Level needed .
Read the Pamphlet that came with your Pills . The Dr. should have gone over the instructions with you when they were Prescribed .. But, that is why the Pamphlet is given with the Prescription .. So in case Dr' doesn't spend the time, you can educate yourself, by reading and understanding what to expect " (basically, as women are different ) .

The doctor not really answering my questions bugged me too! I asked her what could be the cause of a late period and bleeding in between and she basically said "a variety of things" -.-
But thank you for your comment, that does make me me feel a bit better. I just wish I wasn't worrying so much!Comment
