    Burning Urethra, but no UTI.

    Hello!

The last week, as far as my health's concerned, has been very difficult and strange. Now I'm having constant burning at the tip of my urethra, but I do not have a UTI. I'm hoping one of you can help me figure this out.

Here's the story: Last Sunday, March 24th I was perfectly healthy until my bf and I both got food poisoning from Olive Garden. That only lasted 24 hours and then our stomachs were fine. But the following day, Monday, we both contracted UTI symptoms. We did not have sex the night before because we were sick, so it is strange we both got that at the same time. Maybe the food poisoning caused it, but I'm not sure.

We both took Azo, over the counter UTI medicine that I always have in stock. This worked wonders for him, his UTI was gone by Tuesday. Mine had actually got worse. Also on Tuesday something very strange happened. I was not on my period yet (didn't start until Thursday, which is on schedule), but I was having sudden EXTREME cramping. Very sharp, stabbing pains. It was so bad I had to sit doubled over in my chair for over an hour. I took Ibuprofen and it helped so I could at least sit up and watch TV. I also had cold sweats and my head felt like it was on fire. It was so bad I called out of work for the night.

By 8pm that night I was fine though, besides the worsening UTI I was experiencing. Wednesday morning I went to the doctor to give them a urine sample. Later that day they prescribed "Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole Antibiotic" I guess it's called Bactrim. It made me throw up on and off for 4 hours in the night. It was horrible!

On Thursday I called the doctor again to tell them what happened and they informed me that my cultures came back and I actually didn't have bacteria or anything suggesting I have a UTI so I didn't even have to take the medicine or go through that horrible experience! Then they suggested I drink even more water and cranberry juice and wait a day to see what happens. I also took another dose of Azo just in case.

I did just that, and it's still there so I called to give another urine sample on Saturday. I just had a conversation with them about the results and I still have no signs of a UTI or kidney stones or anything.

My urge to urinate is gone, but my constant burning sensation is there and it's getting worse. It was mild most of the week, but now it's hard to ignore.

I do not know what to do. I'm nervous because I don't have any answers. If anyone has been through this or has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you.

P.S. I have not started using new perfume, detergent, bubble baths, etc...

I have this problem, too. Just a painful urethra - that is such a sensitive area and that makes it a big deal. Ice (with a thin towel of protection) is one thing that helps me. I also cut my vaginal hair because it hurts more when the hair is long. Lubrication also helps some. I try loose clothes, All clear laundry detergent, dove soap (both without dies or fragrances). I would say that I've had 2 almost pain free weeks since Christmas. Besides that, it hurts everyday. It does not sting when I urinate. It just hurts when I sit and so much of the time. I don't want sex or exercise because the sensitive clitorus area hurts. I've tried estrogen cream, antibiotics, gyns, urologists. This has been a multiyear problem for me. I got herpes before I got married (unfortunately I believed culture and had sex before marriage). This has caused me so much pain, money and good, married, safe sex. I think the inflammation in the urethra aggravates my herpes. Had another urinalysis today... I wish I knew what is causing this pain.
