Ok now i just got my last Gardasil shot an i have 1 of those 4 HPV strains, Now from what my Dr. told me the shot wont do anything for me with the 1 HPV strain i got but it will protect me from contracting the other 3, Which im happy about because those are the 4 most common HPV strains out there, I just wish they woulda came out with this shot before i contracted the one i already got, They only say the shots not 100% effective because the only way they can tell if you have the 4 Strains is if you either have visible Genital Warts or an abnormal Pap, Thats why its best to get vaccinated before you even become sexually active that way you will be 100% protected from those 4 strains, Unfortunately the shot didn't exist when i became sexually active but atleast my Daughter will be protected from it, So for Pumkin it wasn't a waste of money to get the shots because it will protect you from the strains you dont have, An Aster you can have HPV an not know you have it because it can lye dormant in your system for years some people never find out they have it, So you probably did have it before the Shots an it didn't become active till now, Also just because you didn't have sex in the past year or so doesn't mean you cant still contact HPV if you had any form of Genital to Genital contact you can get it that way, HPV is a very contagious STD because it lives in the skin also, So Gardasil in my opinion is a good shot to get I will definately be getting my Daughter vaccinated when she's old enough.

      Gyno doesn't believe in Guardasil

This Guardasil shot sounds like a bunch of **** to me. I'm thinking ahead, in terms of my daughter. I have been doing a lot of research which all supports the shot - including an article in Marie Claire this month, but I happened to TiVo an episode of Oprah from a few weeks ago, and her favorite gyno is Dr. Christiane Northrup who said this:

Guardasil only protects four out of over 100 strains of HPV. So of course you can still get it.

HPV has not yet been proven to cause cervical cancer, so to say it covers the four most deadly strains is misleading.

There have been deaths caused by the vaccine.

The number of cervical cancer cases is only 3,500 a year (please don't think I'm trivializing because any cancer death is too many, but 3,500 is a very low number) and the number is decreasing yearly because of early detection and routine paps.

Dr. Northrup does not believe in the shot and says most of her colleagues are against her. She does not feel that girls as young as nine should be receiving the vaccine. My daughter will be nine in five years and I'll re-evaluate then, when more information is available.

I personally would never rush out to get a vaccine that has not been on the market for several years - I am very skeptical about what "people" insist has to go into my body and I don't want to be a guinea pig.

I took my daughter to the dr for a flu shot and an immunization a few weeks ago and the pediatrician handed me a brochure for Gardasil and was ready to give it to her! I told her I'm holding off...I still haven't made a decision. So it seems that dr's are now trying to make it a routine part of a girls immunization schedule...at least my daughters dr seems to be.

I have had HPV and you are right the shot does not protect against all of them. when i found out i kept it to myself and that was not a good thing cause i stressed and stressed. the best hting for you to do if you have not already find someone to talk to a friend or family member someone to help you though this is makes it better. You can have HPV for years and never know only a DNA test can find it if you have no sign or symptoms of it. just hang in there it is not as bad as it sounds i have had to go though it all i have had to have the abnormal cells removed and the warts frozen. if you need to talk hit my email. kiwi_21_99133* yahoo or hotmail the same both ways. GOOD LUCK i hope it all turns out okay.

i also aggree with ladylane 9 is to you. i think if they want to give this to kids atleast wait till they are 16 or have had a cycle. most 9 year olds have no idea what you are talking about when you tell them or you are getting a shot to preven cervicle cancer then you have a wholeother topic now that you have to explain and try not to scare the **** out of them. my neice and my god daughter both just turned 8 and i could never see them getting this shot that young no way never they are still just little kids who play with dolls and play like little kids they don't need to worry about Cervical cancer or even know what it is they need to be kids.

              Pumpkin,

I am sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to you. I went thru the abnormal paps and then colposcopy/biopsy and then laser surgery for cervical cancer in my young 20's. I'm now 40 & dealing with it all over again. I had surgery again in Nov. and it's still not gone. I don't mean to be discouraging, I'm just saying you're not alone and I do understand. Take care and hugs.

                Gradasil gave me HPV!

                Hi everyone,
I'm new to this and I was wanting to hear other women's stories about their reactions to the Gardasil shot. I am 24 and I got my Gardasil vaccination last year, at which point I was was still a virgin and had NEVER participated in ANY form of sexual activity. After my shot I did become sexually active and have only had one partner. 3 months after receiving my shot I returned to my Dr. and she discovered that I had HPV. It has been 1 year since and I recently returned for my yearly pap and my results came back abnormal and they told me that I had contracted the HIGH RISK strain of HPV. But I thought that I was supposed to be protected against those 4 high risk strains because I had the vaccionation? I just had my colposcopy and am waiting for my results. I told my gyno that I feel that Gardasil gave me HPV and she brushed it off but I am very upset about this... Please help!

testing positive for HPV 2 weeks after first Gardasil shot

                  Hey all.

I'm 24 years old. I recently became sexually active this past September (yes I was a bit of a late bloomer.) I also recently went on the Gardasil shots. I got the prescription filled on 10/16/08. Two weeks to the day after getting the shot, I had been having some uncomfortable symtoms and went to go get a pap smear and a general exam done. (Turns out I had bacterial vaginosis, but that's another issue and was cleared up with some Flagyl). I tested positive for HPV in that pap smear and had to go get a colposcopy. I was at the lowest abnormal stage and I had cervical warts but they were too small to biopsy. The doc said they would likely clear up on their own.

I'm going back in March for a retest to make sure I'm okay.

I had only been with one guy. I was sleeping with him when I tested positive. We have since broken up and his new girl has gotten STD checks and she's clear of HPV, so it's unlikely that he's a carrier.

Is it possible I just had a bad reaction to the shot and it gave me a small case? Or is it just automatically assumed that the guy I was with HAD to be a carrier?

Is it possible to not be able to detect HPV in a healthy person if the virus isn't flared up and the immune system is healthy?

I just found out that my girlfriend has HPV about less than a month ago. I assume she got it from me, so i was able to contact my previous partners. My first partner had her latest pap in October and it came up normal. She was my first about 4 years ago. The other partner said that she got the shots 3 years ago and doesn't have anything either. That was 3 and a half years ago too. So I'm racking my brain about all of this. She's only been with 2 guys; myself and one other guy she dated for 3 years in high school.

So knowing all of this does anyone know if you can still pass on the virus even after you have gotten the shots?

From what I understand, this seems to be the case.
