    Extremely Irregular Periods

As the title of this says, I have an extremely irregular period. I am 22 years old and had my first period when I was 12. My first period was what I consider to be a perfectly normal and healthy period, however when my second period came it began a long and horrible cycle that I have suffered through for the past ten years.

The second period lasted for thirteen weeks, I am not exaggerating here. It was thirteen long weeks of VERY heavy and clotting bleeding (to the point where I bled all over a chair at school in front of my entire class). I grew weak, anemic and no amount of ultra sounds or blood tests could tell the doctors what was going on. My gynecologist started me on the pill, this was the only thing that eventually stopped the bleeding. I was on this pill for a couple of months when the doctor asked me to come of it, I wasn't sexually active so this was fine. Immediately after I came off the pill I developed a very large cyst on my breast, it was so sore I couldn't bare to wear a t-shirt. I was put on medication to clear this up and it went away.. During this time I should mention I had no period.

Since this time I have been having periods that come every three or four months, sometimes I am lucky that I will have two regular cycles in a row.. But then I get the three to four month gap. When my periods do occur, I am in so much pain that I cannot walk. The only way to describe this pain is as though someone has put my uterus in a blender and switched it on high speed. I get constipated for the days leading up to the period, this pain begins and then I bleed and suffer diarrhea, this happens for the first few days and I usually get one "good" day before my period abruptly stops.

The reason I am posting here is because this year, my menstrual cycle is changing. It has gone from the three to four month gap to just absolutely random. I can't even mention a pattern because there is no pattern. In May, I developed a pain in the same breast as the cyst so horrible that is was once again too sore to wear clothing. My doctor said nothing but referred me to a gynecologist after telling her all of this, who I've finally got an appointment with next week.

As I sit here writing this, I am experiencing the intense period cramps I get during my period.. However I have no period. This has been going on for over a week now (the longest I've had this pain with a no show period). I took a pregnancy test and am not pregnant as it would be impossibly so.

I would just really like to know if anyone has anything at all similar to what I go through. I have seen so many doctors and gynecologists, not of whom have been able to help me. All they ever tell me is that there's nothing they can do.. I'm just trying to find out the cause of all of this, why it is happening..

I should also mention that I have been on and off the pill several times. The reason being that the pill does not help regulate my period, it just makes it far worse or I will just continuously bleed through the entire box of pills. I've had my thyroid and hormones tested which have all turned up normal as well.

I know what you are going through for the most part except I don't have the cramps. I never have. I started my period in 4th grade and was normal until about 7th grade then it started last for about 2 months so doctors startede on the pill and it worked for a long time. Then I stopped taking it all together after about 2 years maybe less maybe more. At about 16 it started up again so of course I got back on the pill and then stopped but it worked till I turned 19 or 20. I am 22 now and I have been on my period for close to 6 or 8 months. I stopped keeping track. I had a break of about 3 days about 3 months ago and I haven't stopped since. And it's very heavy and clumpy. I don't have insurance and I am not sure what to do. Me and my husband are dying to start having kids but this is preventing it. We are almost to the point of giving up and just me getting a hysterectomy. I don't know what to do about it. Also I did some research on some multi vitamins and they worked great for about 6 months a couple years ago but now they make it worse. Then I tried prenatals and they worked only for a few weeks then they made it worse. Anything you learn from you doctor please share so I may know what might be wrong with me and if I could ever have children. Thank you!
