    Colposcopy- SCARED!!!!!

About two years ago I had a low grade abnormal Pap smear. I had a colposcopy done and it came back fine with the exception that I now have HPV. Now, I had another low grade abnormal Pap smear and I have to have another colposcopy tomorrow. I'm freaking out. I honestly don't remember what it was like last time bc my dr gave me Valium. I don't have any this time, and I'm scared to death. Does it hurt? What happens? Also, since the HPV is "flared up" again does this mean I have cervical cancer? Why is it back or active again?

Take a deep breathe. A small microscope is inserted to view the abnormality and if that's ok.. That's it.

If they are not sure or think that it may be more than low grade, they will do a biopsy however, they will numb the area before doing so and you won't feel it.. You may feel a bit awkward in walking for a couple of days but you'll be fine. It's great that your Doctors are keeping a close eye for you.. Cervical Cancer if caught at an early stage and your Doctor's persistence to keep an eye means it will be caught at an early stage if you do get it, can be 99% of the time cured and kept under control. This is what the Pap smears are for and colposcopy to continue to be sure for you.. You're in good hands, just breathe in and out slowly when you get there over and over to keep calm and if you don't feel calm tell them.

HPV doesn't go away, stress can flare it up and seems to be the main cause.

Best wishes sweet.. Let us know after how you are.

Hey! Everything actually went we'll this morning. I took an Ativan to calm me down before I went it. Nothing about the entire procedure hurt. It was however kind of uncomfortable. She did take a biopsy of my cervix but I never felt it. She said she thinks I'm fine and nothing will come of this. She also told me not to use the pool for like ten days...? That seems like a long time considering its summer. But thank you and I'm glad you helped calm my nerves.

That's a very hard place to have a small cut and keep it safe I believe she may believe in the old wives tale, which may be true you know That people pee in pools, eweee ..

Infections Ms Smith and Chlorine. She's ensuring that the small cut is closed over and can't get an infection which would take about 10 days ...

It's only just over a week, you'll work it, glad you mastered it, keep smiling ...
