hey ther i can understand how this can be a scary thing to go through but really your not alone in this. alot of women have hpv. alot don't even know that they have it. when i was about 21 or so i had a pap test come back bad and they said it was probaly due to hpv. i had no signs of anything at all. well i had some cryo done and it took care of the problem and i never have had a reoccurence since. i have had many paps done since then and i have tested negative for hpv now. it seems to have just gone away. i know alot of women can contract it and then have a proceedure done and never have it again. that was my case anyway. this isn't the end of your life trust me on that. as for the boyfriend has he been tested for std's?if not he should get tested and treated if neccesary. if you guys still continue to be together then use condoms. you have come to the right place to get answers and advice. good luck to you......

Hey, I Am 24 Years Old And Was Recently Diagnosed With Hpv After Having An Abnormal Pap Test. I Have Been With My Boyfriend For 7 Years And Am Just Now Finding Out About My Hpv.
My Doctor Says I Could Have Had It For Years, But It Is Only Now Appearing On My Paps.
If You Have A Pap Smear Every Year, You Shouldnt Have Anything To Worry About. I Freaked Out When He Told Me I Have Hpv.
But, He Said If I Keep Up On My Pap Smears, Then If They Do Find My Cells In Pre-cancerous Form, At Least I Would Catch It Early And They Could Remove Them. But, You Should Know That Cancer In The Cervix Can Take Years To Form. I Know It Sounds Scary, But The Best Thing You Can Do Is To Keep Having A Pap Once A Year. Your Doctor May Even Want You To Have 2 Or Three Done A Year Just To Monitor It, Like I Do. I Am Actually Going On 1/17/08 To Have My Second Colposcopy And Biopsy. I Am Nervous, But I Have To Keep Reminding Myself That In The Worst Case Senario, They Find Pre-cancerous Cells, Then We've Caught It Early And They Can Be Removed. But, Also Keep In Mind, Hpv May Also Clear Up On It's Own And Never Form Into Anything. Also, If You Have Sex With Anyone Else, Use A Condom Always!! There Are So Many Other Std's Out There. Please Keep In Mind That There Are So Many Girls And Women Who Have Hpv And Alot Don't Even Know It. So, Eventhough Its Scary, Its A Good Thing That You Found Out About It. Bottom Line: Keep Up On Your Paps And Other Tests You Doctor Suggests. If You Have Any ?s, Don't Hesitate. Good Luck.

I was told I had HPV last year after having an abnormal pap. I've been with my husband for 13 years. My doctor said I've had HPV for years. It freaked me out. I went for a colposcopy and had 3 paps since and they all came back normal. The main thing is to continue to go for your paps every year.

Just keep up on your annual paps and try to live as healthy as possible. It seems like whenever I'm stressed or not as healthy as I could be is when it comes back abnormal. It's not the end of the world A LOT of people have it. Sounds like your boyfriend is very understanding as well.
          Take care.
