Well, after switching to a new gyno who I love I found out I have a polyp in my uterus which led to some heavy bleeding a few months ago (that combined with some pretty major stress). My doctor was awesome, explained everything to me, showed me my ultrasound as I was getting it (including a view of my bladder! Hahaha) and answered all of my questions, a big departure from the woman I went to prior to him.
So, the polyp is about the size of a pencil eraser and he basically said with a polyp it isn't going to go away by itself and it will grow, could lead to some problems getting pregnant, and basically it is better to get rid of it now then later. Quite frankly, I agree.
To make a long story short, he has recommended I get a hysteroscopy and a D and C to remove the polyp. He wants to do the hysteroscopy to ensure he is going in and specifically getting the polyp and makes sure it is gone.
I am absolutely TERRIFIED. Just thinking of getting this done is making me feel sick to my stomach. The thing I am most afraid of is getting knocked out for the surgery. I do not react well to novacaine because of the epinephrine and how sensitive I am to it, and I'm terrified to get general anesthetic. I talked to my doctor about it and he explained the two things are both very different, that he does have a note in my file about the anesthetic and that my experience with novacaine will not be an indicator of my reaction to general an. My parents told me when I was 3 I had to get dental surgery and had general an. for about 2 hours and I was fine (not laughing gas, or novacaine, real general an).
Ugh, I am sooo freaked out about this. Everyone I talk to has been telling me this is such a general procedure that they often perform them in the Dr.'s office now. Even the surgical coordinator from my doctor's office told me the same thing and she said the doctor probably recommended mine is done in the hospital because of how nervous I am about it.
Has anyone else had this done? Am I really panicking for no real reason? Obviously, I completely understand there is risk associated with everything, but I am literally terrified to get this done!
Luckily enough, I am doing this on March 13 after a few days out of the office with time to recover Friday, Saturday and Sunday afterwards.
Just as an aside, I am 27, looking to have kids in a few years---which everyone has warned me to be careful after getting this done because it could make me super fertile (been with the same guy 10 years, so we are intimate). Also, knock on wood (knock knock), I am fortunate enough that other than a surgery when I was 3 that I don't remember, I have not needed to have anything major done.
Please help---I am really scared :-(

and like me that happened to me when i was a young girl and i had to have some teeth out by putting to sleep with gas and i can remember now to this day what they did and it really put me off those mask over the mouth.So when i went into hospital i was put to sleep by an injection in my hand and when i came round they had given me oxygen and yes that mask was over my mouth i tried to pull it off and told the sister i don't like them but eventually calmed down.
