Im 17 and a virgin so I never really kept track of my periods, but I think its been almost 4 months maybe three since I have last had my period. Im getting a little worried. I told two of my friends and they think I should see a doctor. I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac so I think im dying. Should I be worried? I hate doctors and im freaking out here. So any suggestions? Should I see a doctor? I really dont want to but I think im dying.

If there was a possibillity of you being pregnant, then I would have said to take a preg. test. But since you are a virgin, I would suggest going to see a gynecologist. It is usually normal for women to have irregular periods at different times in life, but 3 or 4 months is rather extreme. There may be a problem. It doesn't mean you are dying. You might just have a hormone imbalance or something.

I'm 18 and have gotten used to being completely irregular. I too am a virgin...and have irregular periods. I am typically a little bit underweight and highly affected by stress. I've learned that the more I stress the more irregular I am. It has been about a year but I was at the point of waiting 3 or 4 months between periods...typically becasue of my weight. Seeing a gyno is a good idea but also checking to see if you are healthy in every other way can be helpful (anemia and being underweight are big factors for me) I hope things have worked out for you.

Same here...

I havent had my period in 4 months either. I am also a virgin. I am normally a healthy person, besides my weight, in which i am over-weight. I too am scared of doctors... I will go about every 3 years, while kicking and screaming on the way. I am also scared about whats going on. Im glad to hear im not the only one... Its like, I go through the changes about every month, moody, bloating, cramps, whatever, but i never actually get my period. Its scary... I hope everything works out for you.

I suggest that all of you see a gynecologist at LEAST once a year! Especially if you think there may be a problem. There are some things that can cause irriversable damage if left untreated or undetected. For example, if you develop cervical cancer and do not find out... it can kill you. If you have a progesterone deficiency, it can make you infertiles. And the list goes on. The gynecologist is one of the most important people in a woman's life so try not to be afraid of them.

Dear Female Prodigy....Thanks for the tips but it seems like you're talking to 3 virgins here....not be afraid of a gyno? Heh, right. So far we haven't trusted anyone "down there" so just walking in to some stranger's office isn't going to be exactly an easy thing. I don't know if you have any tips on finding a doctor you trust or even if they'll allow you to meet them before scheduling an appointment? I dont know...maybe we'll just have to tough it out and make an appointment....it's the keeping of said appointment that will be difficult.

I have a hard time going to a regular doctor... let alone a gyno. I know I should... Me and my parents dont really talk, so asking them to get an appointment with a gyno (which will have to be an hour away...) is gonna be difficult...

Please don't think that I am being insensitive to your situation. I was a virgin once too and I know that a lot of people are afraid of doctors... especially gynos. I just know how important it is to get those check ups and wanted to make sure that you know too. It is true... it's just something you are going to have to "tough out". The fear that you experience now would be nothing compared to the fear you would experience if you end up in the emergency room because of something that could have been treated if caught early.

Most gynecologists and doctors will allow you to make first time consulatation appointments where you come in and meet the doctor, the other staff, and have time to ask plenty of questions. Usually they are free too. That would be a good step for you.

yah, I am going to make an appointment with my friends. one needs one to get birth control and the other is just going to get an exam also. I know I need to see a gyno or a doctor also, because it may have been five months, im not sure. so im either really stressed or dying. thanks everyone for commenting on my problem, it helped a little.

I am sure you aren't dying. Chances are greater that it's no big deal. Glad to hear that you are going to see the doc. Better safe then sorry you know.
