    Cervix

I've been trying to locate my cervix so I can feel the string of the IUD I had inserted. I can't seem to locate my cervix. I stick my finger in (even my middle finger) and I've stood in different positions but I can't feel my cervix or the string. I heard that the cervix feels like the tip of a nose. I don't feel anything like that. All I feel is an opening which I think is still part of my vagina. I can't stick my finger any farther than I already do. I put it in as far as I can go. Any suggestions?

    Thank You,

    Bernice

It takes a bit of practice and not everyone has long fingers, so I can understand your difficulty. You can try squatting, which shortens the vaginal canal. Hopefully your finger will hit a bump at the end which should be your cervix. It does have the same firmness as the end of a nose. Feel around and you should find your strings. Sometimes the strings curl themselves around the cervix, which can make them difficult to feel. But if you still can't locate them, give your gyn a call.

Thank you for your reply. After I put my finger in my vagina, I feel a tightness and go even farther, I feel around and to the right I feel something which might be the string but It's not that far from when I put my finger in. Is the vagina that short to where the cervix is? Is it possible that I'm sticking my finger farther into my cervix and thinking it's still my vagina? I've tried squatting, putting my foot on the toilet and tilting my pelvic forward. From the pictures I've seen on the internet, it looks like the vagina is longer and so what I'm feeling is probably just my vagina. This is so frustrating.

Yes, your finger is still in your vaginal canal. You won't be able to get your finger inside your cervix because the opening is too tiny, but you should be able to feel your strings sticking out. New strings feel like fishing line but they eventually soften. If your doctor cut them long enough, you may be able to just feel the ends.
