What IS a yeast infection, anyway?

Hm.. It might be caused by medicines, you say?
See, several weeks ago I was in a horrible wreck. Ambulance immediately took me to the ER, and everything. [I'm much better now] My problem is, though.. Lately it's been itching a lot down there. Now, I don't know if it's a side effect from the accident I was in, from my therapies, or from a medicine I've taken. Actually, I'm not even taking any medicine other than Tylenol, for fractured-wrist pain.. But.. Like I said, It's been pretty itchy, and I don't know what's going on. I talked to my boyfriend about it earlier today; he told me I should tell my mom about it, and go see a doctor. No, it's not sex, because we've only done that a couple of times, and it hasn't been anytime recently. Could it be a yeast infection? What IS a yeast infection, anyway? I've heard "yeast infection" a lot out there, but what is it? I don't know anything about it. What causes it? Can anyone get it, or is it only for people who have had sex before? I kinda want to tell mom about it, but she doesn't know I've had sex before, and she'll be extremely disappointed if she finds out. Oh man.. I need to go see a doctor, but I'm scared. :[ Your help is much appreciated.

Oh [I forgot to say this], and if you must know, the itch feels like when you're peeing, and you still have to finish peeing, but you hold it for a second. Anyone know that feeling? Just stop peeing, hold it for a couple of seconds, then let it out again. That's the feeling I have, but I'm not holding anything in.. When I go pee, it comes out noral [but the sensation gets much, much stonger].

Yeah.. I forgot to mention this in the above post.

Well you can get a yeast infection even without having sex.. sometimes i've heard it is more common when you are having sex just because of the bacteria being passed along. I used to get them as a little kid just from using certain bubble baths and stuff. But it can also be caused from medications.. i'm not sure exactly what but if you read some warning labels it will tell you to watch for signs or symptoms of bladder infections and such.. try eating some yogurt it is good for helping clear up yeast infections you can also buy an over the counter ovule thing to insert and it will help clear up the problem but if it persist definately see a doctor.

        Thanks :]
I've been trying the yogurt. Actually I eat it all the time, so I guess that helped it go away after a couple of days. If it ever comes back, I'll go to the doctor then. Again, thank so so very mucho
