One thing I always hear... and it sounds cliche, but I've found it to be really effective... if you live in your own place, just walk around naked more. It sounds a little silly but once you get used to that feeling, you gain a lot more confidence being naked around other people. If that's the thing you're self conscious about.
If you're worried about whether you're doing it right, I'd say not to worry too much. From what I hear, guys love a woman on top, since they can be the ones relaxing for a little bit. I doubt they're nit picky about how you're doing it. He's probably going to appreciate the view and how it feels. Not to mention, practice makes perfect!

I agree. From my understanding about the only thing you can do wrong being on top is bending the wrong way to far. I'm inclined to believe that if you did that you'd get a cue from the guy.
I do it with my DH from time to time and aside from just going up and down, he likes it when I gyrate my hips front and back side to side with him fully inside.

Unless he's hung like a porn star you don't want to 'pogo' on his disco stick. You worry about left-to-right, back-and-forth and hip gyration while he is in charge of thrusting up and down.
Cowgirl: Support your weight on your knees if you're facing him. If you're facing away from him its a 'Reverse Cowgirl'. Given the specifics of your vagina and the angle of his dangle one should feel better than the other.
Asian Cowgirl: Support your weight on the flat of your feet (or the balls of your feet if you need a good calf exercise) and squat to achieve penetration. Reverse Asian Cowgirl is of course the same thing with you facing the other way.Comment

Try not to worry about it too much. Like Glitter said, he'll appreciate the view and I don't think there is a lot you can do wrong. Unless you have an accidental slip and come crashing back down.
Being on top is fun and powerful. I love a dominant man, but there are times when it's my time to shine.

I had a tough time getting woman on top to work, I still have some problems but at least now I can feel him going in and out. The "problem" my boyfriend and I have is that he is well endowed. He is 7.5 inches and fairly wide when erect so I literally cannot sit flat on him, I always have to be elevated or else it hurts. The thing that has worked for me is leaning a bit more into him while my hips are aligned a bit higher up so that his penis isn't in as deep. It takes awhile to find a good rhythm but once you find it things start to feel really really good.
The confidence thing is hard for me as well. No matter how many compliments I get, or even agree with, I continually find something that makes me avoid showcasing my body while on top. Only thing that has started to work for me is just to do it more often. Even if you cannot get it to work just sit on top of him, kiss, then pull back so you can get used to the feeling of him looking at you. If you feel slightly uncomfortable go back in for some kissing. There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.Comment

I hear you, biggest drawback for me is I am over weight so I am self concious and my knees hurt quickly. DH is a bigger guy as well (we both should loose at least 50lbs). Also we still have a waterbed (HATE IT!!!!) and it is difficult because ther is not mich stability. If we are having fun in the LR the floor works a bit better.Comment

That's an excellent point. The more stable the bed is the easier it is going to be for you. 110% true.I hear you, biggest drawback for me is I am over weight so I am self concious and my knees hurt quickly.
