beware of cancer in oral sex

I am not oral sex doer since long time
(b/c of my sensitve gag reflex and jaw pain and personally feeling it nasty and unnatural and also thanks to my husband that he accepts my excuses)....

long time one my doctor friend told me that she sees many young girls with gonococal throat infection (which is a severe and uncommon throat infection) ..having oral sex history.....

    but now cancer........!!!!!!

I found one intersting research about ORAL SEX in reuters online dated 26th march 2010...It might interest some of you who want to stop it or does not want to do ORAL SEX....below:

(Reuters) - The number of head and neck cancers linked to a virus spread by oral sex is rising rapidly. Despite an overall slight decline in head and neck cancers in recent years, cases of a particular form called oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have increased sharply, particularly in the developed world. This growth seems to be linked to cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), scientists said in a report in the British Medical Journal.
A recent study found the risk of developing oropharyngeal carcinoma was linked to a history of six or more lifetime sexual partners, four or more lifetime oral sex partners, and, for men, an earlier age at first sexual intercourse.

Sexual transmission of HPV -- primarily through orogenital intercourse -- might be the reason for the increase in incidence of HPV related oropharyngeal carcinoma," wrote Mehanna.
The scientists pointed to recent studies which showed a 70 percent increase in the detection of HPV in biopsies taken to diagnose oropharyngeal carcinoma in Stockholm since the 1970s.
HPV-related cancer was also reported in 60-80 percent of recent biopsy samples in studies in the United States, compared with 40 percent in the previous decade, they wrote.

As the article claims - IF this were to happen to anyone that it would be the result of participating in oral sex with someone that has a STD/STI not with someone who is "clean" and certainly not because you participate in the act itself.

Just another reason to be careful who you have intimate relations with.

yeah the HPV virus can elevate your risk of cervical cancer.
its the virus rather than the act of oral sex.
i think this is incredibly alarmist and also misleading.

              True.

If you were with a person that you would possibly get this throat cancer/infection(s) with and you didn't participate in oral sex with them but only intercourse itself you'd get the same infections/cancer vaginally, correct?

So this isn't really a legitimate reason to point a finger at oral sex as possible disease causing act. It's the fact of having intimate relations with an unsafe partner.

I completely agree. Its one thing to not like to give oral sex another to try to look for medical justifications to try to start an anti oral sex movement :O

Married couples, couples in committed relationships, disease free couples, people that use barriers/condoms .... would still be able to practice oral sex even if this anti bj propaganda were true. I don't think it is. I think the anti pleasure ppl would be on tv morning noon and night telling us to keep our mouths closed, and I haven't seen such.

To me this article is pretty equal to someone that wants more oral sex finding an article that says semen is good for your health and promotes long life... etc.

NeedAnswers, I've read your other posts and respect your feelings toward oral sex, that you find it nasty and have jaw pain, neck pain etc... and just don't like it. Thats perfectly fine. Individuals should never do what they don't want to do and hopefully find partners that are happy with their personal decisions. But I really suggest looking into this more, before thinking that its actually having any basis in reality.

And if your partner is committed to you and doesn't have any of these virus' it would all be moot anyway. This study seems to suggest that people shouldn't willy nilly give unprotected oral to many men...thereby upping the chances of contraction but does nothing to suggest safe oral sex, or oral sex between a monogomous couple is dangerous.
Scars remind us of where we've been...they don't have to dictate where we're going.

Exactly! My theory (although it's far fetched) is that Life itself causes Cancer.

Really, on a serious note though, I am not a Scientist or Doctor but I don't think there is any one thing that causes Cancer. I do however believe that there are some things that may be contributing factors. But I also lean to believe that not everyone is going to end up with the disease, only those that have it in their lineage.
