Which allergy medication was it. Maybe I can take that and lower my own sex drive so I won't be a pain to my wife anymore.

It was either Singular or Allegra. I've been off both for a week now and things are returning to normal. I really wouldn't have thought that allergy medicines could have caused that kind of problem, but apparently they can.

Actually, there isn't any conclusive scientific evidence that BC lowers sex drive. The results of tests vary by huge percentages. It is a psychological problem no doubt, but I feel like many women write off their low sex drive problems to BC, and call it a day. That leaves many men like me with no answers, and even more frustration. Just because the woman has no desire, doesn't mean the man can just deal.

Birth Control pills are nothing more than hormones that make a woman's body think it is already pregnant, therefore it will not release an egg. In pregnancy the woman's body is set into a mode of "protecting" the unborn so therefore sex is no longer a priority.

Back to the O/Ps original post ..... it's hard to give any input without further information such as are you on birth control, anti-depressants etc.

A physical reason that some BC, particularly low-dose BC pills, cause low sex drive(according to some studies at least), is that by having the liver process the horomones it creates a type of protein that bonds with testosterone, which in the end lowers the amount of free testosterone in the body, which the female body does require in small amounts for a healthy sex drive.

SEx Drive

Ok I am 35, i have been on and off Synthroid a thyroid medication, for many years. i used to take birthcontrol to balance my hormones, but stopped that all together about 2 years ago.I had this issue I want to say for about 8 or so years. I sometimes think it's cause i was soo premiscious when i was a teen that i no longer desire it.. there are times when i do get a little throb in the woman area and it just so happens my husband is working or out of the house, so I wait till he returns which at that time the feeling is gone but i try to get there again, so that i can make him happy, but from what he says he will be happy when i initiate it and want it as much as he does. I personally think he is a nymphomaniac, cause he can have sex everday several times a day and i am the total opposite.. .

Supposedly they do exist, but I have yet to meet/talk to another man who doesn't want sex at least once a day. It is in our biology to spread our seed as much as possible...so we are literally always ready to go. I struggle with this everyday because of the situation with my wife.

I would just like to point out for people mentioning the words science, hormones, and birth control in the same sentence....the actual birth control pill does not contain real hormones. It is all synthetic, it is all done to mimic the body, not amplify anything. As far sex drive is concerned it is purely subjective. The pill is not going to be found to be the cause of any woman's loss or decline of a drive because again it is purely subjective and science is based on "correlation does not imply causation". The placebo effect will play a part, so will actual changes in brain chemistry but does the actual synthetic drug do anything?...no. The drug is not working to do anything other than to mimic estradiol and progesterone. By-products, various reactions, and simple metabolism of the drug is going to happen and it is those types of things that could potentially cause brain chemistry alteration. I used the blame game when my sex drive went down a bit after starting the pill but after I stopped thinking about it being the culprit did it go up. I am on thyroid medication (synthroid) as well as a steriodal one so basically if drugs were 100% going to change sex drive then a person like myself taking these medications should be immensely affected but nothing significant happened to myself. I do sometimes dip back down into droughts of not wanting sex though so I suppose there can always be a possible drug relation to everything but I try not to think about it.

Yes it's all synthetic, not real hormones .... but if if didn't work it wouldn't do anything. It works .... so therefore it has to do something.

Just because it didn't have an affect on your drive doesn't mean it doesn't on all the other women taking it.

If you are looking for a man who does not think about sex daily in the "Sex" section of a forum, I'm afraid your chances are very slim. Also, no man would admit to such a thing to another man in the first place.

As for "men want to spread their seeds", this is a theory that goes back to the stone age. I know you find it hard to believe right now, due to your wife's lack of interest in sex, but women want sex as much as men do. Don't miss he forest for the tree.
