He needs to relax. Intercourse can make a guy so anxious that he mentally blocks himself from being able to go over the peak. Relaxation will help on this. Try just playing with each other, with no expectations of orgasming. When he is relaxed enough, it should happen naturally. It is good that he gets you to orgasm first. Try more foreplay, using kissing, rubbing and masturbation on each other.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

Maybe he feels like he has to reach the finishing line when you do and when you try to rush things it usually doesn't work out to your advantage and you get the opposite effect. Let him know that the race isn't over just because you crossed the finish line so he doesn't need to rush it, not to mention it opens up the possibilities for you to have multiple orgasms.

He's probably taking care of himself too often......and is densensitized...needs more friction and faster motion. Maybe he needs to back off on the solo play for a while.

One thing that can help, he should wear a condom when he masterbates. I got this tip from a sexologist. Doing this he is less likely to desensitize himself to you and he will train himself to cum with a condom.

Has he suggested something different he would like to try?

This isn't all that uncommon, and like erection problems, gets worse the more he worries about it.
