That's because you are. I feel a new poster of the month is in the wings.
About penicillin group antibiotics, paraphrased per the paperwork in a bottle not from a prescription, but rather over the counter and Physicians Desk Reference, antibiotics have a number of times or days for use against infections. What I have typically seen is 10 days. The blood serum level has to be maintained, so the requirement is for 3 or 4 evenly spaced doses a day. After a few days a person can get better, but if taking the pills is discontinued, the most resistant of the bacteria will replicate the fastest, making the infection more resistant to the antibiotics. Also, you cannot take the same penicillin type too closely spaced again, as it will not be effective.
Use of penicillin as a prophylaxis is different, usually one super dose or possibly two somewhat smaller doses. This would be done say for teeth cleaning. My surgeon that did radial keratotomy on my eyes almost 2 decades ago had his heart valves damaged and his career as a eye surgeon ended after he had a teeth cleaning that threw bacteria into his blood stream that attacked his heart. It could have been prevented with a penicillin group antibiotic. Afterward he no longer had the fine motor control of his hands he needed.I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, VirginiaComment
