Hi Everyone--

I was just wondering if there was anyone who wanted to discuss HPV and everything regarding that. We can talk about genital warts or cervical cancer or anything. I'm fairly new to the virus, but I have high-risk strains (cancer-causing strains)-- but would REALLY like to talk to someone.

I just posted some information that I received today about a new HPV vaccine which was approved by the FDA. They are finalizing the details and hopefully it will soon be available. You should take a look at it.

I contracted HPV 10 years ago. I went to the gynecologist and went through a very painful removal procedure in which I endured a combination of acid, hydrogen (freezing), and cutting of the infected areas. I had to go back several times within a period of 1 month until they were all gone. Of course, I was told that I would have the virus forever and that I could possibly have recurrences of symptoms. I am happy to say that in 10 years, I have never had a recurrence and most of the time forget that I even have it. I have not had any problems with abnormal paps either (knock on wood). Sometimes it's hard to believe that I even have it.

With all this media attention, I too am becoming concerned about cervical cancer. I am relieved to hear of a vaccine. I just hope that it works for me because at this point, I have no idea what strain of the virus I have and apparantly the vaccine does not work on all strains.

hpv continued

So I was looking through the information and I was wondering if it would even work for current HPV people. (I was going to say patients, or havers... but neither really fits or sounds proper.) In one of the articles I was reading (as I saw the article as well)-- and it said that it may not work for people who already have the virus, and it might actually hurt them? I dunno. Clarify if you can.

When do you think people who have HPV should share that they have the virus?

Poo! Well, I just went to the Gardisil web site and found that this vaccine does NOT treat women who have already contracted HPV. It will protect you from any other strains of HPV you have not contracted, but will not treat the strain you already have. How depressing is that?? Ugh!

Anyway, I am going to go post the information that I just found in my other thread. It's very informative so you might want to take a look at it.

Alright. So random question. They ARE looking for ways to cure the cervical cancer HPV (I know they're working/kind of have stuff for gential warts/to make it treatable)-- but I don't have that kind. I know it's a selfish question, but let me know will ya? : )

Any other resources or places to talk to people about HPV? Let me know as well! : )

As with all diseases and viruses, I am sure that some company somewhere is working on a vaccine to CURE HPV and that it's just a matter of time. Hopefully. I do not know this for sure, but that is typically the way it goes in these situations. Believe me, I hope that they come up with something!

I am not sure of any other specific HPV resources, but I have not seeked them out either. I would suggest doing a search on MSN or Google for keywords like "HPV, support, information, treatment" etc.

Is it necessary to tell men you sleep with? If most people already have HPV - why bother? I read an article that said it was like the common cold. That once your body built up an immune to it - you could never get it again. I think we should just get the annual pap-smear and carry on with life unless you have some physical symptoms or the pap is positive. Most men probably have it and carry it already anyway. I think wear condoms...and keep your mouth shut until a vaccine comes available.

Curious if others feel the same - or are passionate about other point of view?

i dont get on the comp much but just thought id let u know that i was diagnosed with the hpv virus at the start of the year, i had abnormal cells come up on my pap smear to, it freaked me out so much, finally after months of treatment i am all clear its been a long journey and thankfully my family have been so supportive. hope everything works out for you to

HPV is a virus that NEVER goes away unless they come up with a cure for it. The symptoms may go away and never return, but you STILL carry the virus and can give to other people. I don't know how severe your treatment was, but I know that it was extremely painful and unpleasant for me and it's something I wish I never had to deal with. Is that something you want to make someone else go through? Many people may only have one outbreak of symptoms, but many other people will have repeated recurrences throughout their life. So it's not something that should be looked at as similar to a common cold. Not only that, but it is dangerous for women because once you have the virus, your risk of cancer significantly increases.

who gave it to who?

if both my x husband ans i were virgins when we got married. I got diagnosed with hpv and dont know how i caught it. I had intercourse with my boyfriend for the first time 4 days before I got my pap? the results poss for hpv. who gave it to me? my xhusband or my boyfriend. Could my x had cheated on me like he said he did.
