OK, so I have gone back and forth on whether to ask this question. I am curious how many men have ever compared erect penis size with other men in a heterosexual manner (meaning, simply wanting to compare size with no other reason)?

The reason I ask is two-fold. Many years ago – like 15-20 – a group of my friends and I did. We were simply watching a movie that had some elements of sexual appeal (not pornography), we were adolescents and immature. Another time, at a party during my first year at University some woman called out another guy and I and wanted to compare. We both declined.

As I have reflected on this over the years, I have two conflicting thoughts. First, the immaturity behind it. As many people have stated, most women could care less about size and men need to get over this injunction. Second, is related to the educational value. Because a larger penis really means an inch or two (not much, when you think about it) and because scientific research has proved that something like 90 percent of men are in the normal range of size, coupled with so many claims that men make – or sometimes their girlfriends – that they are larger (e.g., the myth of the 9 or 10 incher), I think there could be some real educational value. I think so many men are naive and really think that they are small when they are average and there could be an educational value.

Now, I am sure this will not become mainstream and it probable should not. But I am curious if any other men participate in similar events, what the circumstances were and the end results. Was it educational, was it sexual, was it hurtful, was it shameful, and so forth? Likewise, comments or participation by female members of this website are also welcome.

I hope this post does not sound stupid. It’s just something I am curious about.

How many compare? All do. Comparison of anything my men/boys happens a lot. They do so with their big trucks, with their game scores, how much food they can eat, who can fart or burp the loudest, who can score the most in hockey, who's team is the best football team, who can take more pain...the list goes on and on with what men like to compare. Penis size is no different, they will compare as a joke quiet often. If someone is smaller than he could be laughed at by his 'bros' because that is the style of some male communication especially at a younger immature age. Then they hit the age of maturity when they can say the number and shrug their shoulders no matter their size because they see it as a number and not some important stat. A lot of men do not care because they understand they should not care. Then there are the always present subset who do care that they could be .0x inches below the "average", make it known, and women essentially say "okay enough, you are fine now stop worrying about it" (they do not mean it in a mean way more in agitated way because the subject simply pops up too much).

However with men penis size becomes a thing of pride, they often do believe bigger is better because everything else in their lives may be quantified by that....the bigger the steak on the plate at dinner the better it is. The more women in the room in skimpy clothes the better, the more violent the hockey game the better. Bigger is often better with them so it would not be uncommon for them to "accidently" measure their penis wrong and add a 1/4 inch. Then there are going to be those who measure, find out they are average but not want to accept that because they truly believe they should be bigger and again measure but add some extra to make themselves feel better. There are also those who could go into it wanting to be "educated", realize they used a tape measure wrong, measure and find out they are smaller than average and end up thinking their life is ruined. It could very well be that some men when they measure could feel a sense of relief if they measured in the correct way and find out they are average sized, but that sense of relief may not be felt by all men. They could be like, K now what. A lot may also not care because they know they are of average size.

We have a radio contest here in Edmonton called the really really hard contest, a bunch of people go through tasks to qualify for large sums of money. One of the mini qualifying contests was "who has the smallest penis in Edmonton". Legit they said "we are tired of hearing about men pretending they have a larger penis than they do and thinking that big means better" so they set up the contest to have a nurse measure and find out, between those who entered, who had the smallest penis. Not the biggest, not the most wide, not the most used and abused....the smallest. Turns out it was some guy who had his penis in the negatives, meaning when he was flaccid it was simply pushed into his stomach because it was not long enough to hang. The crowd loved it, did not laugh, because it took guts to face men and women on the subject and be measured. He was also measured correctly, by a nurse, not by hoping he did it right. In the end it was between him and another person for the total grand prize at the end of the whole really really hard contest. He did not win but the radio station called him up later on and he said he cannot go a day now without having a ton of messages on his home phone saying that it is awesome that he did that and was not embarrassed and that more men should be okay with their size.

No. I have never been in that situation. I am average in size and really only care what my wife thinks about it, not other men. Having said that, in my younger days, I have been in situations with other guys and girls (skinny dipping, hot tub etc.) and it is hard not to look and make sure you are comparable.

Your reply is pretty fascinating, especially about this radio contests. I have never heard of such an event.This is the things I am trying to figure out, would such a contest break the stereotypes if wanting a larger penis. Its sounds like this radio show may have. I would see the guy as pretty internally strong to not care. It reminds me of years ago (again, like 15-20) attending a wet t-shirt contest where a woman with larger breast was clearly winning (based on male cheering) and some women with smaller breasts went up on stage and through her body image confidence wowed the audience. Although I would no longer support such events as a wet t-shirt contest, I still see this woman with smaller breast willing to go up on stage as a person with inner strengths.

In my situation, again years ago, my friends and I found it educational (though I did not call it educational back then – I was like 17). Because we were all fairly close friends, there was not a meanness about it and although one person was fairly larger, and another that was smaller (and the rest about the same size), it was obviously that the guy who was fairly larger was not that big of a deal – it was an inch or so.
I think what happens is that many men become sucked into thinking that a 7 incher is so much longer than a 5 incher, or that the thickness of 6 inches is so much bigger than 5 inches. But when you stand and compare – eye-ball-to-eyeball, an extra inch of so is literally not that big of a deal. And I see people who think an extra inch or so as being important are people who psychologically and emotionally lack inner confidence (either in themselves or when desiring such size in others).

But at the same time I think if more men compared, there can always be the danger of someone trying to humiliate another. Beyond this radio contest, can you see other ways where men can compare in educational and self relief settings (not some type of party atmoshere where there is humiliation when a person is smaller)?

No it would not break any stereotype because it requires a person to acknowledge that size is something that does not matter. A contest, no matter what it is, will make a joke out of it. In that case it was a joke over small size though it did help in acknowledging that one can have fun even if they are small. Other men would not be willing to accept that because they are still going to be stuck on bigger is better.

It is not exactly the smaller breasts and inner strengths in the case of a wet t-shirt contest it is how sexual they can make themselves. If a girl has huge breasts but does not want to flaunt or gain attention a man is less likely to stare for a prolonged period of time simply because she is not turning her body into an act. However, if the small breasts girl comes out in a garter belt ensemble and begins to push her boobs together licking her lips bending over and slapping her behind then the guys will be paying attention because she is highly sexualizing herself and not paying attention to the boobs...they want the image of extreme sexuality right there in their face.

The radio station is a raunchy joke of a station, no one takes it seriously because of the hosts and the sexual immaturity but it is popular with the young guy crowd for just those reasons. The contest is over, it was over years ago, the really really tough contest happens every year with different stunts. The small penis one has not happened again it was a one single time event.

A contest will not do that. It could for a select few maybe but unless it is taken on a huge massive scale then it is no more than a single contest. When individuals are set on their opinion nothing is going to change it. You can throw multiple legitimate research studies right in their face showing a grand amount of study subjects that resulted in saying 5.5 inches (for example) is the average and that individual who is set on their ways will not care...that stereotype will not be broken. In order to sway the minds of the insurmountable amount of insecure sized men it would take a global effort of media portrayal that size does not matter to women and that X size to X size is considered the average and that a great majority of men fall within that. Without that grandiose amount of effort no stereotype will be broken because media can sell bigger is better much easier than "no guys you are average be happy".

I provided an example of a penis size contest. The morning show portion of this radio station is the raunchy immature part because of the single host, his name is Paul Brown. He is simply the part of the show that makes it raunchy and boring and immature. The other hosts are fine, it is the one idiot of a host that makes the actual morning portion of the radio show such a joke. But the immature young guy crowd love it for that reason. The rest of the radio station is perfectly okay having nothing to do with sexualiztion unless some caller brings it up. The contest though is very real and that particular "mini" qualifying small penis thing did happen several years ago. The reason it was done was because they were tired of hearing all the mumbo jumbo of bigger is better so they wanted to change it up and ask guys to come forth and be measured for the smallest penis...to break the mold, to be that one 'brave' guy per-se. Tons of people applied for that particular mini qualifier they had a video of the whole contest and that one guy was dubbed the smallest based on those who applied.

But no radio station or contest is going to hold a "hey beautiful men of the world lets be strong brave individuals and prance our size because we are not listening to the media...lets go wooo wooo"...will not happen. A change involves a grandiose media alteration to showcase that women do not care and that normal size is a huge majority of the population. When that happens the stereotype will vanish because maybe there will be enough media coverage to get the point across. Until that happens the comparisons will continue, the low self esteem will happen, and the change up in measurements to make penises seem larger than they are will happen.

It’sasecret, I checked out the website, and the contest you mentioned was not listed in an archive. Which I understand – it was long ago. However, it seems to be small penis contest are more based on humiliation and such a contest would reinforce that bigger is better.
I realize that there are all sorts of events/contests for men who are larger to show off. Twenty or so years ago when I was am immature punk, I was not aware of mainstream events, like wet underwear contests – let me know if others disagree, but these seem to me something that have become popular in the last 10 years or so. Likewise, there were not pathetic website set up where two men can show their goods and people can vote on the larger one.

The event I was involved in (see first post) was a group of guys that -- for reasons I still do not fully understand – wanted to see and learn about size. There was not a humiliation factor or a bragging part of this although one guy was clearly larger – but nothing ridiculous like the mythical stories you hear about on website).

Perhaps no one wants to post about it, and if so, that is OK. I am simply curious if other men have had similar experiences of sizing each other up that were not done in a humiliating way or a way to salute bigger is better (such as what sometimes happens in fraternity and sorority parties). Obviously, women are welcome to comment on this either in being involved in one in the past to just comments in general.

The crux of my thinking is this: so many men have size issue and I’m curious if more accurate information was provided to men about what real erect penises look like, if the size issue would be lessen, or possible increased.

You missed that the question had not to do with comparing penis size, which of course boys and men do, but with heterosexual males comparing "erect" penises. This actually is pretty rare. There are penis contests at adults-only resorts and wet-shorts contests at spring break destinations fueled by youth and alcohol. This may also be an icebreaker game at a swingers' party. All in all though comparisons of erections among hetero men are pretty rare.
