    Tampon blues

    Hello Ladies-
This question is for the ladies. This has been happening during my last few cycles. I use tampons,(gentle glides) and pads. In the beginning,(2 days) I flow heavy then it wanes. That's when using a tampon can at times almost become unbearable. It feels ROUGH-not like sandpaper, but like it's almost as if you were thristy and had to swallow a bag of cottonballs with cardboard bits in it and no liquid to wash it down with. This happens when I insert or extract. It hurts! I'm obviously not dry, I am still menstruating. I would just use a pad but it's simply not enough protection. Has anyone else experienced this? If so do you have a remedy? Thanks. be Blessed!!!

Yes, I know exactly what you are describing. I just use tampons for the first few days and then switch to pads and change them often.

I have the same problem and I do the same thing as sourpuss. Just use pads and change often. Sort of a hassle, but it beats the irritating chaffing..

Just because you are still menstruating, doesn't mean your not dry. Your hormone levels change which can mess things up.

Apply a little coconut oil or even olive oil to the area that feels rough before you insert or remove the tampon. This will greatly increase the comfort.

          Hi free spirit-
I tend to flow really heavy so there is a lot of moisture, but eventhough I'm not dry it doesn't mean I'm wet either. Good point! I am perimenopausal with daytime hot flashes all day long. So your hormone level changes statement is dead on the mark! This is probably changing my tissue in some way. I will try the olive oil remedy you suggested, although that just sounds really messy-yuck! But the only other alternative is to just use pads which alone would just not be enough. Thank you very much! Be Blessed!!!

              Hello Yorkielass-
Thank you for mentioning that. I had seen my GYN months ago about this issue and I got a clean bill of health on that. But my flows are so heavy my gut feeling is I need a second opinion. Now you have supported my thoughts, I need to get to the bottom of the cause. May I ask how and what you went through as far as the removal? Thanks! Be Blessed!!!

                Fibroids

What i went through every month was awful the second and third day was worse and then would slowly get lighter till after 7 maybe 8 days i had finished.Like i said i was on super plus tampons and even a night time towel.I had lower pains all way through my period and blood clots that were so frightening.I went to see my doctor and i was sent for a scan they saw nothing with the gel on the tummy scan but they found it by internal.March 2005 i had one removed and fine for a while and it started again until December last year another was removed.I'm 45 and the last one was 6 days late and unusual and wondering if it's getting to that point now,i think i was age 11 when i started with them.

You say you haven't Fibroids,, well somethings making them heavy and i'd go for another talk to your doctor and tell her/him your not happy.Believe it or not i'm free from pain now and use just super size towels but i was like what your going through.

                You take care

                  Hey Yorkielass-
WOW! OUCH! Thank you so very much for sharing in such detail and if I was too intrusive please forgive me. But I am still glad I asked you. We are about the same age, 40's. My cycle is never under 7 days now,(about 9-11 days on average). I too have pain at least the entire first half of it, but I have for years. I never got an explanation for it and resolved that maybe it's normal-for me. Strangely enough I rarely get any pre-cramps. The clot thing has been going on since last year, they were so alarming I thought I was having another miscarriage! I'm sorry to be so graphic, but they look like hunks of liver. Even so, you never know who else is reading this and they too might get some insite. I take my blessings where I can get them! You have been just that. Thanks again! Be Blessed!!!

I keep a small jar, like a sample jelly jar size, with just a little bit of coconut oil in it. You only need to use a little bit. It goes a long way.

And keep after your doc and don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Sounds like things might be more complicated for you.
