    Girlfriend of a year has completely lost sex drive after coming off the pill

    Hey there, first post so be gentle!

    Anyway. I have been with my current girlfriend for a year now and have a great relationship with her. We both bounce of each other and have similar views on most things. Our sex life this past year has been great. We only get to see each other at the weekend but generally have/had sex or some sort of intercourse once a day during our time together. She is shy when it comes to initiating things so I'm generally the one who starts being playful, which works as I'm quite dominant.

    So, about a month a go my girlfriend (lets call her K) had a serious issue with getting headaches that she never used to get. She thought it could be to do with her pill (That she had been taken for about 2 years). Also she started spotting for a random reason which freaked her out (rightly so) and went to the docs to get checked out. After tests and what not everything came back fine and she were advised to come off the pill for a while.

    However, since she's come off the pill she has completely lost all desire for sex. I understood it to begin with as I can imagine her hormones would be flipping out. Her mood has elevated and she gets eggy over things that would never usually annoy her. There has been quite a change in her personality which I have subtly mentioned to her which she has agreed on. Upon asking her how she feels toward sex currently she says it angers her. The thought of it. The physical view of it. I'm quite a touchy feely person and in the mornings when we are both lying there chatting I tend to grope a little, which in the past she's loved. But she's told me lately that when I attempt it she just want's to punch me in the face, awesome...

    She also says she doesn't feel sexy at all and just feels all frumpy and what not. I reassure her that she's lovely and sexy and such but as you can imagine it doesn't really stick with her. This has been going on for a month now and I'm just curious to know whether anyone else has experienced something similar to what I have? And whether it's a long term thing or what? Any info/advice would be great!

    Thanks for reading and I look forward to any response.

    Sadly you may be in for a few more months of this behavior...

    Doctors have told me it takes at least 90 days for the pill to work its way out of our systems. I'd venture to bet that she is not happy either about her changing emotions and new negative body image.

    Keep trying though! She still needs to know that even though she looks at herself negatively YOU still think the world of her.

      Hi,

      Thanks for the reply!

      So are you saying you have been through/are going through the same thing?

      I intend to let her know how purdy she is. I mean I can't keep my hands off her, that must be some kind of compliment, hehe!

        I have been through that same thing many times. I was started on birth control very young and changed perscriptions many times because of the effects it had on my emotions.

        My most recent experience was trying the birth control patch about 3 months after my baby was born... I was depressed all month long and 2 days before my period I litterally sat in my bed and cried for hours and could not tell you why.

        Only birth controls that don't effect my emotions drastically are the ones with very low estrogen. Apparently I make plenty on my own.

        I give you props for noticing all these things and not jumping on her about them, that will help her more than you know. Keep up the good work and soon you shall be rewarded!!

          Two things: (1) continue to talk to her, maybe get her to explain or even understand herself why she feels such hostility;
          (2) you might consider wearing a hockey mask to bed if you're going to "grope" in the mornings...
