    Sexual intervention

If a loved on was addicted to drugs, many people would hold a drug intervention, and with very good reason.

I propose those of us that are dealing with major rejection and resentment hold a sexual intervention. Invite close family and friends together persuade the significant other to seek sex therapy and marriage counseling.

We talk about it with our spouses until we are blue in the face, but our spouses just never seem to get it; however, when we discuss it here, plenty of people get it right away. I didn't marry a dummy, but either she truly is incapable of understanding or else she is playing me for a fool.

What do you think? Is society ready for sexual interventions?

If I had sexual issues/problems in a relationship, or problems pertaining to sex which were holding me back from a relationship I doubt I'd talk to my family about it! Hypothetically though it makes sense to encourage a loved one to seek help for a serious problem. The difficulty is that people tend to (rightfully) be secretive or a least reticent about their sexual problems and hang ups. I think this is why people, posting anonymously on a site such as this works quite well.

The idea of a family encouraging marriage counseling would work more effectively - and hypothetically I believe it is a god idea - though again people tend not to advertise their problems, and just like drug addicts, for any kind of treatment to take effect, people NEED to WANT to CHANGE.

We can either beat drug addiction or we can't, as far as sexual partners and relationships, many people view them as a disposable and abundant resource, and prefer to shirk responsibility and blame others before they look at themselves. This of course, makes them excellent candidates for the treatment you suggest but lands them into the category of people unwilling to accept, or even entertain the idea of help.

    That's just my opinion though!

No. But 1000 internets to you for a truly original idea.

Incidentally, my wife has suggested going to the elders in our congregation for help.

Interventions do not work in any situation. They are just popular because we see in on TV all the time. Ask any therapist and they will tell you this.

After several recent talks where I told my wife we need to either move forward or apart, she suggested enrolling in a marriage course at our church too. Our church is progressive. During a series on marriage in February, the Pastor clearly stated the church's view is married couples without physical limitations should have sex at least once a week, but strive for three or four times a week. AMEN Brother!!! He also quoted passages from the bible that touch on serving the intimate needs of your spouse, and rejecting or depriving your spouse is a sin. I've agreed to enroll in the marriage course next month, but I remain cautiously optimistic. I am totally open with my wife, but not so much in a group setting. My wife is neither open with me nor in a group setting. Hopefully, I will be pleasantly surprised.

I agree with your thoughts and comments on this. People definitely need to realize there is a real problem, then need and want to change. For some reason, we struggle as a couple to get past that first step.

I briefly entertained the idea of sharing my posts on this forum with the hope that she would read the comments of other posters and she that I am not lecturing, imagining, over-evaluating, making a mountain out of a mole hill, or being too sensitive as she refers to my talks with her. However, I am sure that will do more harm than good, which is why I thought wouldn't it be nice if perhaps our friends, people who know us best could also help. However, I realize this could never work in our current society.
