what is a normal sex drive

I started masturbating really young, like 6. And I've always had a high sex drive bur thought I would grow out of it. So now I'm 24 and I seriously can't satiate myself. I want/think about sex almost all the time. When my boyfriend is at work ill have what I call 'masturbation marathons' until he comes home. And then we have more sex. The thing is, its starting to become an issue. Sometimes I'm late to work because I spent to long masturbating. And besides that, I find myself wanting to have sex with thw majority of men I meet. I don't. I love my boyfriend. But does anyone else have this problem? Is anyone else aroused almost constantly?

Sometimes a person just has a high sex drive. Just to be sure, have you been to a doctor to see if there is a reason for the high sex drive, such as a hormonal imbalance?

No I haven't seen a doctor about it. I didn't know they could test for such things... Wonder which hormone is the arousal hormone

Testosterone, cortisol and estradiol are all involved with arousal but their exact roles are unclear. Other hormones involved in arousal and climax include dopamine, endorphins, adrenaline and prolactin. Some make a person want to do it again to reach the same high or a higher high.

Do you reach orgasm during your masturbation, or is the masturbation itself the reward? Without orgasm, the hormones involved in arousal are the ones to be tested.

There's something called persistant genital arousal or something like that, but those people aren't necessarily that much into sex and it's not connected to libido. You just seem have a high sex drive. You're normal. There aren't 7 billion+ of us just because babies are so cute.

Many people are the same as you and you'll find quite a few of us on these boards.

I reach orgasm every time, but I do enjoy masturbation in general. Someone told me when girls are athletic they have more testosterone so have a higher libido. I do work out daily and have always been involved in sports. Could that have something to do with it? My BF works out too, its just really frustrating wanting to have sex like twice a day and him only wanting like twice a week... I feel like a total sex crazed nympho compared to the rest of the population :-(

Having a high sex drive is fine - good in fact, but you need to be with someone who also has a high drive or your may spend a lot of your time feeling frustrated.

That said, when you say you are sometimes late for work due to masturbating, that is more concerning and suggests that it may be a bit of a compulsive behavior rather than just a high drive. That might be worth seeing someone about.

With your bf having a much lower sex drive, this situation will frustrate both you and him. As you want sex more, he will withdraw and want sex less and probably start seeing it as something you are demanding of him. As the one with the lower sex drive, his drive will be the one that controls how often sex occurs between you two, unless he subverts to you and ends up giving you charity sex.

                  I can very much relate.

I feel I have a stronger that normal sex drive, and it seem to be hereditary because so do my two sisters. I remember all through grade school having a strong attraction to boys and enjoyed being physically close to them. When I was 10 and started to develop breasts that was when my sexual feelings\desires started to emerge and began having kissing sessions with older boys. I enjoyed getting sexual aroused by kissing\fondling, but I didn't understand it much at all. It was both confusing and exciting at the same time. Occasionally I would get sexually aroused to the stage where my body wanted to have sex, but at 10-11 that was confusing and overwhelming. The boys I was with at the time were curious about sex, but not ready, so thankfully it never went any further than kissing\fondling. If any one of the had tried to have sex with me, it is possible I would have in a couple of circumstances. Not so much as a conscious choice, but because my body wanted to have sex.

Part of what I struggled with was cultural expectations\attitudes about sex such as "Good girls don't have sexual desires" or "Good girls do have sex until they are married". I had very strong sexual feelings that I could not make go away and made me feel very good when I got sexual aroused. I tried to pretend I wasn't interested in sex and act like my friends, but I flirted with boys every chance I could, and age didn't matter to me, if was boy that I thought was cute, I would flirt with him and get physically close. I wrote in my journal that I felt like my body has a mind of its own, and it wanted to do things with boys all the time and it kinda scared me a little whenever I got fully aroused and wanted to have sex. Because of the whole cultural expectations, I thought there might be something wrong with me for wanting\feeling something girls are not suppose to have.

Now, I accept it without any concern. I very much enjoy having sex as much as possible.

You probably have friends, family, and acquaintances that are the same. It's just probably not shared. Plus with women there's still a teeny bit of a stigma about wanting a lot of sex. Men will boast about how much they want, but women are less likely to share. So you're just less likely to hear it from women.

I haven't been in very many sexual relationships, but I was in one with a woman that wanted it as much or more than me. It was nothing for us to do it 3, 4, 5 times back-to-back with her initiating much of the time. It was a great pleasure. The problem with that was that I thought that's how all relationships were. They are not, as you well know.

You're going to likely have problems if you are in a relationship with someone who doesn't feel like you about sex. The young lady I mentioned wasn't athletic. I've been lifting weights since 15-16 and I'm 37 now. It's crazy that I feel hornier now than I've ever been. I've wondered if it's the exercise too. I just think it's an individual thing.

Do a search of this site and you will see that you are far from alone.
