How often can a 60-y.o. man have sex?

How often can a 60-year-old man have sex? We've been married 36 years. I had health issues, and we had a drought for several years. I hit menopause, and my hormones went into high gear. I got up the nerve to approach my husband to rekindle the flame, and he seemed game. We still have an adult daughter at home, but we've worked around her schedule and managed to have sex at least four times a week for three months.

Then, this past week, and he's made no indication that he's interested. When I asked him about it this morning, he claimed he's been tired. Well, he's always tired; he's an old construction worker. He also said our daughter has been around. I pointed out that she wasn't out all evening both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and for most of last night.

He's been on medication for low testosterone for a couple years now. Recent blood work says his level is good. He works construction, but he was working construction these past three months, and it didn't stop him.

I have to wonder what gives. Am I expecting too much to have sex once a day at our age? He's 60, and I'm 59.

How has he been at getting hard? As us men age, generally we don't get as hard as we did when we were in our prime. That can lead to not getting enough sensation and things feeling like a massage instead of sexually exciting.

I suppose part of it could be the Coolidge Effect. If you two weren't doing a lot for quite a while, there was some novelty to going at it 4 times a week. Maybe the novelty has worn off and age related effects have taken over. Maybe change things up a bit to get the novelty back. Explore doing something you two have never done before. Also, consider Viagra or a similar type of drug.

His masturbating you or giving you oral may help with your desire while helping him on the slow recharge of his batteries.

One thing about being tired, if the two were to go on vacation somewhere without distractions, you could find out if its due to tiredness. I would suggest it really isn't, but a lessening of desire (libido).

Has he started any medications? Blood pressure medications and cholesterol medications can cause or worsen erectile dysfunction.

Lastly, most guys decline in sexual function as they age, but there are some who can keep going strong many years longer than their peers.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
    ...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, Virginia

Once a day is a lot for most guys over 50. I'm 60 and my G/F is 45 and we make love 3-4 times a week. I take Cialis(low dosage) and have always worked out in the gym 4-5 times a week.

I don't smoke or drink and eat healthy. You could ask him to try something to boost his libido. You could also get a toy and ask him to use it on you when he doesn't feel like it, if he's open to that type of thing. But everyday is quite a bit perhaps 3-4 times and work your way up to 5.

      Good Luck!

JNS, He's been hard as a rock every time and hasn't had any trouble performing. Even went twice within a couple hours one night. Granted, the second time was slower, but he did manage to get it done.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.

Thanks, Macdawgg. I just thought it was odd that he'd been keeping it up at least four times a week for three months and then it seemed there was absolutely no interest for almost a week. One day, he had a great opportunity to have sex, yet he sat in his recliner and watched reruns of Gunsmoke and Bonanza instead. Grrr! To be fair, I know he really has worked harder than usual the last few weeks on a construction job that has required him to do more strenuous activity than usual. I'm glad I asked you guys before I confronted him before I threw a hissy fit.

Thanks for your feedback. It helps.

Gunsmoke and Bonanza lol!! For my guy it's Gilligan's Island, ha! If there's a Gilligan's Island marathon on I know I'm not getting sex. Unless I dress up in pig tails and bows like Marianne (ask me how I know, lol!) Anyway, I know that doesn't answer your question, I just had to relate.

I think he probably just needs time to rest and recharge.

Also, another question . . . I've noticed my husband stays hard for a few minutes after he ejaculates. He didn't do that in his earlier years. Is this something we should be concerned about? Thanks!

Nothing at all to worry about.

If my wife asked me to have sex in the last few minutes of the Superbowl when my favorite team was playing and it was a very close game, I'd immediately hit the record button, turn off the TV and jump her bones. Of course, as I say that I fully realize that will never happen, especially since she very rarely initiates.
