IMPORTANCE OF STAYING AWARE :

The rise in divorce is being blamed for increase in sexually ntransmitted infections among the over 50's.

More older man and women are returning to the dating scene, experts say. But many fail to follow the recommmendation to use CONDOMS, assuming medical warnings about safe sex is aimed maily at the young.

As a result rates of diseases such as chlamydia and gonorrhea are incresing ammong middle age and elderly as well as the young.

Between 2002 and 2006 cases of chlamydia among those aged 45 to 64 rose 51 per cent from 1,276 to 1,933. Among the over 65's there was a 37 per cent rise.

Gonorrhorrhea mong those aged 45 to 64 fell over the period. But among the over 65's there was and 11 per cent rise !

Meanwhile cases of genital warts went up 22 per cent for the younger age group and 17 per cent for pensioners.

While first attacks of genital herpes rose by 13 per cent among those aged 45 to 64 with cases totalling 1,563 there was a 10 per cent rise for pensioners.

Syphilis cases rose among those aged 45 - 64 rose 139 per cent from 172 in 2002 to 411 in 2006.

Statistics show more than 42 per cent of British marriages end in divorce , the highest in Europe.There is a rising trend for break up among marriages which have lasted 30 and 40 years.

These figures underline the fact that separating sex from marriage can have serious health consiquences for people of any age. As a society we are beginning to reap the harvest of reducing sexual intimacy to a casual recreational activity and robbing it of its special charater as an expression of total self - giving of a husband and wife to each other.

We need to send out the message loud and clear to people of all ages that the only way to avoid contracting STD is to keep sex within a life long MUTUALLY faithful marriage.

Last month, the LANCET medical journal warned of an upsurge of sypilis cases in developed countries. Most syphilis is found in men, but the rates have been rising in women. The disease is affecting young hetrosexuals as well as mature women in "particular sex circles".

The overall trend for the last decade is rising among all age groups with 1,500 per cent increase since the mid Nineties according to health protection agency. The elderly were being left out of official campains to tackle STI.

Most people think bthat STI ONLY affect young people but this is clearly not the case. Too often, campaigns aginst STI are solely aimed at teenagers and people in their twenties!

The government needs to ensure information is available to ALL age groups so we can buck this worrying trend .

It is always a scare but at the end of the day, i agree that most assume, never assume that it pertains to the younger generation and therefore all must be aware..

Your welcome CW, but you know me, its one of my main concerns for any age . I do get a bit concerned when i see the lack of word "condom" but see lots about the pill, and of course the pill will only protect against pregnancy and other gyne conditions ...not sti's which really do have those devastating consiquences . And of course worrying for the older lady because it is happening ...though thank god we are some years away from our pensions ...phew ...

Well that poses another issue, that being when answering a thread regarding the pill, and i think i do? That a condom should also be mentioned...

But from what i have read " Na, he hates them".. And that is his responsibility as well as hers regarding pregnancy but hard to turn it around to but......

And then to add in oh by the way, you are sure your partner didn't sleep around before you and has some form of decease?

Maybe the only way is if deciding to go into a proper relationship offer to as well, but ask that you both have blood tests first?

I do remember my first boyfriend, on and of 14 years, he developed herbies from sleeping around to much ( and on me with my best friend) what comes around, anyway, he told me, he told her, well i'm pleased that he did, and i still did sleep with him for a while before breaking of completely ( first love) but with a condom, she didn't... He convinced her and tried with me, that if there was no sore, then it would be okay.

Mmmm... Guess what? She got it to... now i am not a person who agrees with revenge but justice? Well it was served after all........

But yes, not every person knows, and some do and don't tell.... And, regardless of age, we all have to be aware and wary for sure.

Sunny for us ...but it was a kind of sunny and showery day ...typical English ...but really gorgeous sunbathing weather last 3 days in the north ...to get back to the point, first thats awful what your friend did, some friend, i had that happen to me to regarding friend sleeping with a boyfriend. I was only young and happen to tell her that i wasnt sleeping with him yet but i liked him a lot, she used to go round to his house after i had had a date with him and sleep with him in his bedroom, he was living with hisparents at the time . When i found out her "excuse" was "well if youd of liked him , youd of been sleeping with him, so i thought i would as you didnt" !! she then started dating him, she went though each one of his friends sleeping with the lot of them. we stopped being friends and i learnt a valuable lesson for myself anyway that was NEVER discuss your sex life with female friends as soon as they hear oh we havent slept together yet, you can bet one little tart will over her services !!! so i never have i just smile and say we get along just fine and hes very nice and id always do that for rest of my life regardless but in that case there was no sti . Its unfortunate CH but you deserved better and will have better and there are nice female friends out there but just hard to find and trust .

Anyway, i understand what you are saying regarding the condom issue but i think that the best way and only way around it is, if you get to the point we and all women have sex its not always when you have done the tests so always carry your own condoms so you can be sure of the use by date, and extra safe ones, ones that you have chosen and prefer to use non latex if you prefer , better than getting allergy if anyone gets them , so at least if it does happen they are there to use and as oon as possible both get sti tests, swabs, blood, and examinations go together so then people are at that point of ok no condoms any more . The thing is it does not always work like that and a woman could be married her husband have sex without protection with another woman and then come back and give it to his wife because naturally you wouldnt be using condoms if you were married, though some women prefer that method. So it still means that married people get sti man or woman and they do , for me he was married , i didnt know, but he obviously had chlamydia and gave it to me 7-10 days after unprotected sex. So i assume this man was sleeping with his wife AND me , so im thinking did she have it but didnt show symptoms as you dont always show them or was it him ...was she sleeping with another guy while he worked away from home ? or was he sleeping with another woman apart from me AND his wife and he gave it to both of us ? the great unanswered question !! which will never be answered as bhe was such a liar . The only thing i can say here is it is best to always use a condom, men will say things like oh i trust you ! ???, or i know you are clean and your not promiscuous ! and oh i carnt have sex with those, they say everything but how i think the best way to answer that is ...yes , i trust you, of course i do BUT i will feel so much more relaxed and enjoy it more and make you feel really good if i use a condom ...or before people have sex get tested . It certainly is a difficult obne but its about looking after yourself, having sense, also protecting your cervix because once that is damaged thats it ...its looking after your fertility and that very important for a woman if she wants children. But if a woman is in a marriage where she knows her husband is having sex or visiting prostitutes , having affairs ect, i really do think she should sit down whatever the situation and say to herself , this is too risky, and leave him as she couldalso contract sti ...a lot of men think that that oral sex is ok not a problem., it is and i would advise a condom for women unsure and a dental dam . You can only do so much to prevent but as long as thats what people do then thats a great thing ....everybody goes into a new relationship thinking it will last and this is it im in love ect ...but you know how it is they could have several people they think the same with and its not intentional to be changeing partner ...so i would just be sticking with those condoms and do the tests as soon as you can . I dont take the pill one of the great reasons to remind me and the guy I HAVE TO USE THEM or il get pregnant ! so perhaps its worth trying that for some women who's boyfriends refuse the condom ...just stop the pill or tell them you stopped the pill to make sure you use that condom (yes not honest, but far better than suffering from anything ...thanks for the post CH, Take care PF x
