According to me, it's rather how much a woman knows herself, and whether an emotional connection with the partner exists and has been maintained through the process.

The BBC article about the study, by Indiana University, Chapman University and Claremont Graduate University concluded something different. Search and find the BBC article.

still go by my statement above, also, have read enough that know many heterosexual women expect the man to be in control of giving them orgasms (without them getting involved or speaking/ showing husband)

The numbers were 65% of heterosexual women, 66% of bisexual women and 86% of lesbian women have orgasms before any speculation is done on the reasons. So straight women have the fewest orgasms per the study. Bisexual women are ahead of heterosexual women by only a small percentage.

Maximus is correct in that his comment is an opinion instead of the results of a study.

As for the reasons, not getting involved would be a good one. Lesbians probably do a better job of exploring each others bodies. Along the way, they probably find out what gets them going enough to orgasm. Heterosexual men probably are not as involved in giving their partner an orgasm as they are probably more concerned with their own performance and orgasm.

I'm suspicious of your conclusion, jns.

I don't think women in homosexual relationships have sex nearly as often as women in heterosexual relationships. So the rates of orgasm per encounter may be higher, but that doesn't mean they're having more.

Also, I wonder if just an orgasm is necessarily the end for heterosexual women, in general. I know that for mine it's not.

One more thing, I'm not a statistician, but there were only a few hundred lesbians in the study, but almost 25,000 straight women. I wonder how legit that is.

In statistics you look at standard deviation. When you have have a lot of data, you can get a good idea of where the center of the bell curve is. If you have a smaller pool, you cannot get as high of confidence from your numbers. Still, I would think that several hundred lesbians should be enough to show a trend.

What you speculate about heterosexual relationships having more sex may be true. It seems that a lot of long term relationships end up with limited sex because of one partner or the other is not as interested any more. Most of the lesbian couples that I have personally observed have been more sexually affectionate than the average heterosexual ones. Of course that is only anecdotal from what I have seen. How often that turns into sex is a question. Quite probably young heterosexual couples would have sex very often. And of course in those relationships, the women would be getting as often as the men because men are always into an equal exchange (ironic).

I am wondering about what conclusions I have drawn. I didn't think I drew any.

I just skimmed through the article, so I could be missing the answer. I apologize if I did. I'd like to know how the questions were posed to study participants. Are they talking orgasms only, or sexual behavior including another person. It's presumed by the wording of the article that it's based on sexual behaviors with their partner, not through masturbation. Thoughts?
