I was recently having a discussion with a group of friends, and I was curious what this forum thought about it.

We were discussing the app Tinder. One friend (26 years old, male) had used it to meet up with a college freshman (18 yo, female.) After a few dates, they had sex.

The responses have been all over the place, some said it was totally fine / normal, while others think it's borderline pedophilia...

It's not illegal, in any state, I don't think.
As far as pedophilia, I think technically, the younger person has to be a child. 18 isn't a child by any definition, to my knowledge. It doesn't fit with pedophilia. That's my "technical", yet incomplete, answer. It may fit with another -philia, but I'd have to look for it. This is assuming that the 18 yr old is a mentally sound person, which I presume is the case.

I don't have much of an issue with age difference. 8 years doesn't seem like a lot to me.
I do know some folks that have strong feeling about age tho'. I think it's a matter of preference.

My parents were 15 years apart and my mother was still 19 when they were married. They stayed married for almost 60 years until my father died at 94. The age difference did not really play much of a role in their lives. That being said, most 18 year old and some 26 year old people, are not ready for long term stable relationships.

as far as the age gap goes it's not important - as long as they are both of legal age if they are having sex

As long as they're above the age of consent, it's their business.

I can drive a half-dozen miles from my house to a beach resort town and watch girls just above 21 (legal drinking age in CA) trying to get into pockets of rich men who're old enough to be their moms' dad. It's a gray area of prostitution.
