In most cases the penis does not touch the clitoris during piv sex. However, the thrust in can draw in the labia and cause stimulation of the clitoris for some women. Sometimes positions, like cowgirl (girl on top) can help heighten the pleasure by allowing the woman to control the tempo and penetration to her best stimulation. I think it might be something of an over-generalization to say "most women don't cum from penetration." In my experience, most women do orgasm from penetration, although I would agree that for many if not most, it's quicker from oral or other stimulation.
Since I myself don't reach that point very quickly, it's not a problem for me to last long enough for my partner to reach orgasm first, and it's incredibly satisfying to me when we're joined and she does!
