    Does lube actually help you?

I'm curious, if anyone you actually find lube helpful. I don't. What helps me is simply being aroused and relaxed from within. If the vagina isn't internally relaxed and wet, lube won't make penetration any easier.

I'm thinking that it's more so for women that have an issue with arousal because of medication, hormonal changes, or a disorder, kind of like Viagra. I don't think it does much for a young, healthy woman any more than Viagra does for a man without erection issues.

One of my friends talked me into trying it when I was younger. He claimed it worked wonders. I was curious, so I tried it and didn't notice any difference.

It works if you are drying out, a problem as you get older. It's not about arousal. Sometimes I just dry up in the middle of things if we are going a little longer than usual and sometimes if I have already orgasmed. Not a frequent problem, and not a problem for me, but my husband will want to add lube in those cases.

You're right, sp. I should have said having an issue with lubrication, not arousal. You can be aroused without being wet or erect.

I find lube helps, especially with us older couples. As DreamP observes, arousal in the over 40 set does not always equal the proper amount of lubrication. I have also found lube heightens the experience when she touches me. The quality of the lube also makes a huge difference. Some of the cheaper/stickier ones are icky.

Some med I take (which is like a dozen so who knows what one) seems to cause some dryness compared to before. Even when I do get fairly wet and very aroused my urethra is very sensitive. If I don't use lube there are urinary issues and sometimes I get to sit around for 10-15mins with an ice pack against there until the swelling goes down. Even before I took meds that could cause dryness it was a bit of a problem.

I've experienced drying out, but I still felt that lube didn't make entry easier. Maybe it's a psychological thing. I just find that the natural wetness and knowing that the vagina is elongated/ready works best.

I've never needed it for intercourse, but some other forms of sex require it. I also use it when playing with toys.

Pre kids, we never used it. Post kids, we seem to need to. But we love using it. It makes sex and orgasms so much better having the right amount of lube!
