I can't speak for others but we use lube often. We prefer the water-based kind--we tried silicone-based and it is just too hard to clean up.

You're right that birth control can have an effect. During the first week of my pill cycle I tend to be too dry, which is when we are most likely to use lube.

It can go inside with no problem. Usually when we use it, my fiance will put it on his fingers during foreplay when he is playing with my clitoris. Then he puts it all over his penis, especially the head, just before he enters me, so a lot gets inside at that point.

I agree...silicone is harder to clean up, but better for in the water like the shower.

Some women do need a little help from time to time, especially with age. Saliva works well but only for a short period of time. Personal lubricant helps a lot for intercourse and manual stimulation. It lasts quite a bit longer than saliva.

As women age, lubrication can be a problem. This is especially true after menopause. Also, its good with a condom. Its creates less friction with the rubber and can be applied both inside and outside the condom.

For oral sex, you can use flavored lubricants to mask the taste of a condom. Its also a good thing to have for hand jobs.

It can be used to enhance sexual pleasure. Some lubes have special stuff that makes you tingly and stuff.

For anal sex, its an absolute requirement.

My husband and I use lube (Astroglide) about 1/2 the time. 100% of the time if anal is involved. But it's helpful other times as well. There's no need to suffer from friction discomfort.
