How honest are you on a first date?

How honest are you on a first date? I was thinking about this because i'm a private person and i'm curious about how much most usually reveal on a first date.

It really depends on what it is. I'm not going to pretend to be someone that Im not but at the same time, Im not going to them everything there is to know about me all at once.

I think some silence is important on a first date. Lots of people get uncomfortable and get diarrea of the mouth and tell their whole life story to someone who really didn't want to hear it. Honesty is important, if your date asks "so tell me about your last relationship" (which I think is sort of inappropriate, but it happens), then I'd tell him in VERY little detail, without bashing the ex or getting upset. And then I'd change the subject.

If your date says "are you dating others right now?" ........... be honest.

Just don't get nervous and over-talk and tell TOO much. Let someone learn about you on their own.

I'd just go with the flow. It depends on the dynamic I might have with whoever I'm with on the date. However I for SURE wouldn't lie about anything. Also, I'm a little drunk.

A little drunk right now? Or a little drunk on dates? LOL!!! Too funny girl!

Hehe. Right now! Sometimes on dates too! But not like... first dates. That'd be weird.

Hey all... I was gonna start a thread on this but this thread actually fits in with my question. I have a first date with someone I met on a dating site a couple weeks ago, we've been emailing back and forth and I'm meeting him tomorrow.

Here's the thing: As some of you know, I'm still trying to get over someone, who is a close friend that broke my heart because he does not feel the same. My question is... should I let my date know about this right away or wait to tell him (if I should tell him at all)? My feeling is that, if I'm going to be dating this guy, he deserves to know about this so he can decide if he wants to keep seeing me, knowing that I am still in love with someone. It might be a deal breaker for him, but I still think he should know. What do you think? Tell him now or wait?

It takes a while to get to know me and so it's not like I'm gonna tell my whole life's story on the first date, but I'll answer any questions truthfully and I focus on just being myself. If the other person likes me for me then great, if not, that's fine too. After all, that's what dates are all about, getting to know each other and finding out whether you're compatible.

kristalyn, if I were you I'd forget that question entirely and just NOT date this man. It's completely unfair to him, or to you, regardless of whether or not you tell the truth about it. Dating someone new while still hung up on someone from the past is toxic. Give dating a rest until you're absolutely ready. TRUST ME, that is the absolute best way to go.

thanks mes... but I'm just looking to be friends with someone first, not jump into a relationship... and it's just taking way too long to get over my friend and I'm getting sick of it. If feels like the only way I'll get over him is if I end our friendship and just not talk to him anymore, and I really don't want to do that. And... you're drunk... should I trust you? lol
