I think CW's suggestion is great, just wait another year or so at least. Have this baby with a man who you think might have a better chance of sticking around in the long term.

Hun you don't have to change your last name! This is something that can be discussed with your partner, you don't have to go to the extreme lengths of having the child first just for that. My mom and dad got married, she didn't change her name, and then she passed it on to me. She thought it was important to carry on that particular last name.

Funny story.
I always wanted a hyphenated name, as I also wanted to keep my last name, even though I have a brother. Well, that's exactly what I did, when I married, had his name hyphen, my last name... So you can change it once married anyway, by him changing his name by adding on a hyphen and your surname.
I can visualise this. You love children
So, you would want the best for them if possible, not all hand me downs, or not being able to afford that cute outfit, .. Lots of reasons why I think, what's 12 months? It's 12 months of saving. If your now boyfriend, can afford to look after you on his own salary, when you have a baby, then ask him to go 50 now, with you so you can put 50% of it away for the baby and plan for this...
