Ever swim in a public pool? Tons of chlorine or bromine in that water, sounds like the same as the bath idea. But I tend to agree with you about it, sanitizing everything is dangerous. Not only are the chemicals themselves potentially harmful, but if we protect our bodies to such an extreme, we might not build a healthy immune system and make ourselves more susceptible to infection or illness when we cannot control the cleanliness of a situation.

Texinator,
Libertarians are primarily motivated by assuring maximum individual freedom and limited government. Like Ron Paul, libertarians know that there are few absolutes in government. Therefore, individual liberties have to be reconciled with preservation of society. Many a great empire has fallen by the wayside due to societal decay, Rome coming to mind.
Little knows what's right for her. I would be awfully sententious to assume I know better for her than she does. All I requested was that she take a second look at what she believes. Maybe I am just lucky, but I know no social conservatives who are misogynistic. That is an extremely pejorative term. It evokes passionate responses. Were I to use it, I make sure its applicable. But in reality, I probably wouldn't even if I were sure it were applicable because I try to avoid people who harbor hate.
Take care,

That's exactly what Little was saying she does. Is every social conservative a hateful person? No, but many are. Come on down to southern Texas if you'd like to see for yourself. I even have some in my own family. My late grandmother was a social conservative who prided herself in being a "good Christian." She also hated everyone who was a different religion, race, and nationality different from hers, and she also hated homosexuals and people who were different from her politically. Yes, she was even a misogynist on top of that. Despite her being a woman herself, she got mad at one of my female cousins for entering law school, because she thought a woman was more suited to be a homemaker. Being a lawyer is for men, she thought. I just use her because she's a great example, but there are countless more like her.
People like her are free to believe what they want, as long as they don't discriminate against anyone, and Little and others are free to believe about social conservatives what they believe, as long as she doesn't discriminate against anyone.Last edited by Texinator; 08-23-2011, 06:46 PM.Comment

Hi Texinator,
I am not sure I would call your grandmother a social conservative. In fact, I am not sure how to characterize her. But I don't think she was a social conservative. Maybe anachronistic. Lots of people have difficulty changing. But we all ought to be obliged to the Golden Rule.
If you remember Civil War history, it was white Southern Democrats who were denying rights to everyone who was not a white Southern Democrat. Lincoln, a Republican, had to reconstruct the South using the US Military to assure rights of all southerners.
Personal beliefs are the essence of liberty. As Voltaire said, "I might not like what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Voltaire was Madison's inspiration for our First Amendment. As for me, I think that if one can't say something nice one ought to find something nice to say. It's never a good idea to hurt another's feelings.
With family it would be difficult, but I do try to stay away from people who hold hate. Hate is a contaminant that destroys those doing the hating.
Maybe one of these days I'll take you up on your southern Texas offer. I think I'd make a right nice cowboy! I gotta git me a right proper hat first. Maybe even a real six-shooter. Might even indulge me some famous Texas barbeque. They don't call me Taos Flay for nothin'

the right wing conservative in america give the counrty such a bad name worldwide. which really sucks as every American ive ever met (mind you they are Americans who actually leave the country, your passport ownership is VERY low) have been amazing, kind intelligent people. i went to a conservative all girls school and even the majority of our conservatives think the American right are extreme! i saw a tea party rally the other day on the news that had a woman holding a picture of Obama as a monkey! WTF??? i personally would never date someone who thought Fox was a reliable news source. it belongs on the comedy channel.
Taos, do u have kids? i come from a big family, lots of siblings and my mother is a RN. its healthy for people to be exposed to germs. it builds up natural immunities. if you dont build up natural immunities and let your children do so they end up getting sick...a lot. if everything is bleached people will have no exposure and immunity. obviously in a hospital everything must be clinically clean and sterilised but thats due to the large number of disease coming into a hospital that cant afford to be spread. washing your hands is paramount and does help prevent the spread of disease, but what are u worried about catching from someone who hasnt had a shower in a couple of days? dont ever go camping! you might meet some people with golden staff!!! lol (note most people contract these infections in hospital where most things are bleached lol) dont ever hang out in a homeless shelter you might contract something life threatening!!! Do u watch a lot of Fox Taos?
anyone who values human rights for everyone has alot to fear from the conservative right in America. heck it sent our country to war, TWICE last decade! If I knew where I was going I would already be there
I wish I had more time. Judicious, beautiful, augmented, whatever.
I've always been afraid to die, but I think I'm more afraid to live. (BC, SP)

Taostake a bath with a cup of bleach
SoCoKenI'll bet that they carry a 10% bleach
.Ever swim in a public pool? Tons of chlorine or bromine in that water, sounds like the same as the bath idea. But I tend to agree with you about it, sanitizing everything is dangerous. Not only are the chemicals themselves potentially harmful, but if we protect our bodies to such an extreme, we might not build a healthy immune system and make ourselves more susceptible to infection or illness when we cannot control the cleanliness of a situation
Thank you for the explanations
I'm with you SoCoKen, our bodies were born chemical free after all and when we pass away, we pass away are we therefore prolonging time by taking such advise and then we also have to ask or are we shortening it, due to adding even more chemicals into or onto our bodies... I guess if I could do everything naturally I would but it's not always possible
I just actually turned our chlorine pool to salt water, and chlorine in your eyes? Wow that burns so you know that the chemicals are strong... You guys have to remember I am from AussieLand the difference between Australia and America differ dramatically. Regular Bleach contains chlornating compounds, sodiam hydroxide that's scary to me. Labels such as "keep out of reach of children" and "warning, irritant vap;our may be harmeful.
I appreciate that 1cup per tup of water is very diluted and I am sure your Doctor knows exactly what they were talking about, I was asking for what reason. To me if it is life threatening? You do everything out of your power but if it is not, seek alternatives than chemicals and I do respect your wishes, you do as you please as I will.
I did not assume see above message re Little what I think of that word. I asked a question if you saw yourself as that given that you talk about cleanliness. Don't judge me either. I also stated I shower almost every day, my house is spotless, I am forever cleaning and tiding, have I asked myself if I have any OCD traits? Yes and the answer is somethings and so, I asked you a simple question, no assumptions. Why would you assume that I have OCD? To me it seems like a gimmick to assert superior knowledge.
Edit to add:- Oh but read my signature as well I have been known to be excellent at "guessing" if you will, on numerous occasions, call it a gift.....I however, am never right all the time, but most of it... (light humor) leaves now.
If that could happen it would be great but it is never going to happen..For I believe in maximum individual liberties with a corresponding limited government that keeps its nose out of citizens' personal affairs. That's the way I roll.
SoCoKen
I am sure it is everywhere but you know? We never, ever, hear any of this type of goings on with Government bodies here in Australia, at present their focus is on Carbon Taxes... People's rights apart from same sex marriage is pretty simple and clean cut..It does amaze me when I read all of this, the difference. It's educational but sadAlso, in the US there is a large population of anti-abortion women. It is more religion based than gender based

Elanor-Jane,
Somewhere along the thin line of this thread you have gotten the wrong impression.
If you're trying to tell me that it's beneficial to not take showers because it creates immunity to germs, we'll politely disagree. How would not taking a daily shower create immunity to anything? Do you actually know Australian physicians who prescribe not taking a daily shower because it's healthy? Would exposure to malaria prevent it? Would exposure to cancer prevent it? Of course not. So we take precautions to prevent illnesses.
Whether I have kids has no bearing on medical science. Physicians know how many diseases are transmitted and methods of prevention. I have yet to read or hear any physician opine that a daily shower is anything but beneficial. Do you know of one who does?
My brother's second father-in-law was both a DDS & an MD. He was a practicing dermatologist. I have had conversations with him about health. In fact, on one camping trip he specifically said that not showering was detrimental to health. He also opined adversely to perfumed soaps. Pure soap such as Ivory is best.
The physician who told me about bleach in bath water was specifically talking about MRSA, which seems to be common in Southern California. Now if some people have a phobia to bleach and other beneficial chemicals and not to MRSA, to each his/her own. MRSA is an extremely deadly infection that must be treated immediately with very strong antibiotics. It's not unusual to have MRSA pathogens on one's skin, which is why shaving cuts can become serious. Not all that long ago I saw a TV episode about a girl who cut herself shaving, contracted necrotizing fasciitis and died. This is another infection that's not uncommon in Southern California. The primary way of preventing such infections is bathing, since these pathogens are commonly found on our skin. So if I remotely thought that I had contact with any of these very deadly infections, I would hop in a bath with a cup of bleach. But those with chemical phobias would chose another option, although I don't know what it might be. Death, maybe?
So back to the point, if a woman does not take regular showers, that's my deal breaker. However, if you're good with a contrary point of view, who am I to argue against what's good for you?
Please do not intentionally take what I write out of context. However, I am good with what I have actually written, which somehow seems to have been misinterpreted by you. What I have written is that a woman who does not shower daily is my deal breaker. Please don't reach for an extreme to try to justify what you want to believe I have written. Of course I know no one is going to be able to shower every day. When I've gone camping out in the Rockies many miles away from any town, it's impossible to shower every day. However, I do take baby wipes to stay as clean as possible. But I do love outdoor activities that cause me to get very dirty, such as my recent fishing trips to the High Sierra.
Finally, on to your Tea Party comment. No political party has been more unjustifiably maligned than the Tea Party. That accusation you made about Obama is phony. It never happened. Research it. However, those not in the Tea Party have intentionally attempted to contaminate it with such BS, and they have been exposed. Hence, they have stopped carrying stupid signs at Tea Party rallies trying to portray the Tea Party as loons because they were the ones identified as whack jobs.
Elanor-Jane, we are Americans. We have our own culture. We don't care how you do things in Australia. We whipped the British because our Founding Fathers no longer identified with the crown. Our Founding Fathers admonished us to mind our own business. If it works for us, it ought to work for the rest of the world. I do not care about what you or anyone in another country thinks about us. You might have an ego problem if you hold the notion that we ought to be anything other than Americans. The French can do what they want, the British can do what they want, the Italians can do what they want, and we'll do what the we want, thank you very much. And it's not forgotten that when Europeans screw themselves up they rely upon American blood to bail their butts out. We should have stayed out of both World Wars, for Washington told us in his farewell address that Europeans have an inveterate propensity for warfare. So if Europeans want to kill each other, it's none of our business. But there's no doubt in my mind that were your country to find itself in a jam like it did in the Battle of Coral Sea, you'll cozy right on up to Americans for our blood to bail your butts out again. You ought to be giving thanks every night to MacArthur because he saved you from speaking Japanese. So keep your negative comments about America to yourself. And don't for a New York second allow your ego to think we care what you think because we don't!
I hope to God Ron Paul wins. Obama is a freaking globalist who's dead set on ruining our country. He had no experience when he ran for president. Now even members of his own party are openly questioning his ability as well they should because if he had two thoughts at once he'd become concussed. If you want him, please take him. He has gotten us into four more stupid wars in addition to the two stupid wars he promised to end if elected. So he's a liar to boot. He's a socialist who actually believes that government should steal what others have earned to give what others haven't. It's call buying votes with money others have earn, a condition our Founding Fathers cautioned us against. Social justice appears nowhere in any of our founding documents. It's a slimy, class warfare phrase to justify the greedy's illusory property interest in what others have earned, and that is in direct opposition to Jefferson's Declaration of Independence.
If Ron Paul is elected, you might just rue the day you hated on America, because he will pull us out of all of our foreign entanglements (President Washington's words). He will close every US military base on foreign soil. We will comport ourselves as our Founding Fathers admonished by defending only our borders. That's they way our country was intended by our Founding Fathers. So since you guys got it right down under, which you don't because you have plenty of your own social and economic problems to deal with, grow your military and become prepared to defend your self-righteous country, 'cause we ain't gunna do it for you again, especially if you're gunna cop an ungracious tude.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money to spend.
***Margaret Thatcher***
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
***Winston Churchill***
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

That actually was my point.. If it is a life threatening problem, I'd hop in it too, just not if it was a method, a better way to clean my body, so now I know why you would opt for this if need be.I would hop in a bath with a cup of bleach. But those with chemical phobias would chose another option, although I don't know what it might be. Death, maybe?
You know it's not a good idea for "anyone" to get into a political arguement in an angry manor (speaking to everyone), debating is fine.
Just for the record I have been to America, I intend to go again in the next two years, I have honest friends that I class as American and Canadian for that matter with a variety of subjects they talk about, I feel left out of the loop, like I said alot of those things just don't happen here. Yes, we Australians have been pulled into war, not created them, stood by other Nations as a back up and it would easily be a bone of contention given the "news" we have here each time an Australian soldier dies as we are a proud country but then, the exact same thing is happening in America when you watch the news be it "Fox" or any other channel, the same distaste happens but against the other Country whom killed that American.. In other words, we all are human and we all do not like deaths caused by war. I do not have any distaste to the Americans if we started a war, I'd know that America would be there to back us up as we do them.
And Taos? I do like "deep" thinkers and speakers as long as they make it clear it's their opinion and not a broad statement that belongs to everyone, which has happened..
But, yes, I am sure if you fired away on some subjects I may agree, just not all but that's normal.PUT A LITTLE 'LIKE' IN MY SOUL!Comment

Maybe much of this discussion should be moved else where as it is not about deal breakers per se, but rather philosophy in it's many branches.
A person who was not able to communicate would not be my choice nor would one who could not compromise.I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
