It's men like this that give men like me a bad name!

Some men are so narcissistic they even start to talk about themselves in the third person. Don't worry though, Buddhaboy would never do this...

I can see why people do that, bc I've done it. It can be much harder to say no, so you do other things that will help the other person get the hint. I know I was worried about hurting other peoples feelings or looking like a rude b... I recently told an old man asking me out that his date idea sounds great, but that I'm very busy. My friend told me I shod have said no bluntly and how long it's gonna take me to say no to someone. But, that old man got the hint from my posture and actions. I think men are smarter than we think at recognizing that we're not interested. Women have a harder time with this, bc we don't want to admit that a man can reject us.

As a man, the kindest rejection is 'I've got a BF' this lets us believe that you would have said yes if you were only single. A lot of men will just ask a girl out who's talking to them in the pious hope they'll say yes. If rejection doesn't phase you then there's no real harm in asking: you fail 100% of the shots you don't take...

. These guys already knew that I didn't have a bf though, so I didn't know what else to say. Saying no outright can be a bruise to the ego. I also told these men that I prefer someone around my age, which I don't think is too much to ask for. I've been told that age shouldn't matter, but I'm not attracted to men that are 10 years or more older than me. I'm 29 and these two men that asked me out we're in their 40s . Just like older men want younger women, I see nothing wrong with wanting someone in their 20s and 30s.

Whilst courtesy is usually appreciated you don't need to explain yourself or apologize for turning down the offer of a date. Many, many men take rejection badly which is why you experience the feelings of apprehension you do when rejecting someone. This shows your compassionate side though, which is nice considering many women revel in rejecting men as brutally as possible (bless them).

Only a complete tool will - when rejected - demand to know 'why' he's been rejected and then attempt to qualify himself and extinguish the woman's concerns. "Age shouldn't matter" is a pretty pathetic riposte to "you're too old for me", he should have accepted you weren't interested and left it at that.

When I'm out if I approach a girl or get chatting to her, after five minutes if she doesn't show any sign (verbal or non-verbal) of interest I'll politely excuse myself and leave her to continue mingling.

We can clearly see Buddhaboy would never be that way

I know, he wasn't the first either, like there were 3 I attempted to date, and all were older lols. One guy said his sister wrote his profile? Gawd.

I actually was only on a dating site to gain my confidence back, ya know. Get dressed up and remember the game. I kind of then went pftttttttttttttttttt this is carp. Left. Then I met David

                  Hi buddhaboy

Thanks for your reply and compliment.

To clarify, it was female friends that told me "age shouldn't matter." The two men that asked me out were very understanding. I gave the men an explanation, because I felt like I had to let them know that it had nothing to do with their looks or personality. I know I feel really bad when I'm rejected, so I know how the other person feels.

Come to think of it, the female friends that suggested that I date older men are also in their 40's and 50's, or they are my age and at least 7 years older than them. Nothing wrong with that. That's their preference, but it's not mine. When I mean I prefer"someone around my age", I'm talking about people within 5 years of me. It's not like they have to be 29 only and nothing else. 10 years older than me is just a little bit too extreme for me. It's going to be hard for me to create chemistry. Maybe when I'm 50, dating a 60 year old won't be a big deal.

In 2009, I actually went on a date with a 37 year old when I was 27. It was my friend's idea and she kept raving how gorgeous he was. I just went along with her suggestion thinking "It's no big deal. It's just a date." But, 3 dates with him showed me that I just couldn't build the chemistry. He also had a kid and went through a nasty divorce, which I couldn't relate to (being childless and never married). He was a nice guy, but it was funny how I got carded at the dinner table and he didn't...I felt kind of bad for him in the moment.

This wasn't a rejection really, but I'll share it on here since it's quite unfortunate and a case of 'its a small world'.

Up until a week or so ago I was on POF. OK, so I didn't close my account I just hid my profile... I still have the app on my Iphone.

I get one of those 'a girl has expressed interest in you via the flirt option' messages. I check it out and she's hot. So I'm 'on-it-like-a-car-bonnet' and send her a message. She replies and we exchange messages. We chat back and forth and like most of the girls on there stops messaging after a day or so, so I leave it at that assuming she's been distracted by someone else.

Last week (Tuesday I think) I get a message from her, we chat all day and agree to meet up, we're just about to swap numbers and agree to add each other on FB. Five minutes after I've friend requested her she messages back saying she can't meet me. Turns out she's got a kid with a guy I know. I remember a few months back at the beginning of the summer or so we were in the pub and he spent the evening crying on my shoulder about how she'd screwed him over for the house and was basically bleeding him dry for money. I didn't really want to meet her either after I found out 'the connection'. We agreed to pretend like nothing had happened.
