i dont really know anymore. i think if people are ok with it and they arent hurting anyone else, i dont think its my place to say if it's good or not.

i do think that they can be fraught with problems, many of which have alreday been mentioned.

but if i were to be completely 100% honest with myself, i would have to admit that i do have real feelings for a friend, someone other than my SO, and in some ways being able to share that kind of intimacy with them would be much more than just sex.

i still think you can have feelings for and love more than one person. i am not sure if acting on them is a good thing, at least for me.

I think it would take very secure and emotionally well balanced people to make it work. Haven't really known anyone that emotionally healthy.

is mine considered an open relationship? I have a lover and my hubby knows about it and is ok with it. He's not seeing another girl though!

I know that i couldnt do it.....just being honest with myself, I know that i can get jealous, especially knowing that my man is being intimate with someone else other than me!

I have many friends who are married to each other, or engaged to each other, and have many partners 'on the side.' It seems to work for them. That's good for them, and I'm not judging them, it's their lives.

But for me, personally, I could never do that. I have a hard problem sharing.
There are many avenues and degrees of love, but for that sort of intimacy, I'm definitely more of the monogamous type. Just the way I'm programmed. Oh well

I wonder if takes a greater level of emotional health to deal with that type of situation or a complete and utter lack of it in order to make it work.

I wonder if people that have an easier time disconnecting emotions from sex are the healthier ones than those that can't, or if its an even more present display of emotional disfunction.

If your husband accepts this, then yes you are in an open relationship. But, I would ask myself "why" he is not seeing anyone, in-other-words if he is actually happy with the situation or purely going along with it as he doesn't want to lose you.

som men find it quite exciting to know that their SO i with someone else. That i my husbands take. It THRILLS him to know im being satisfied by someone else...its a kinky thing i suppose and not something everyone is into. i liken it to anal sex....its so not my thing, in fact i cant see how anyone gets pleasure from it....but there are those who love it. not me. LOL
he may not be going along for the ride....maybe this is just ok with him.....mayeb that is a concept most cant fathom.

as long as everyone knows what the score is, who is it hurting? really?
i get a kick out of those who think that because im in an open relationship i dont have the same kind of intimate connection to my husband that they do. if they met us in real life, they would know better.
he is my best friend. i can talk to him about anything and everything, not something that most women can say. i can tell him i am attracted to someone and NOT have him flip out about his manhood. i can talk to him about anything....and he can talk to me as well!

It is truely about being 110% confident in your relationship.......im not afraid of loosing him to anyone else. it happens all the time in non open relationships, however....

I think it would be okay as long as both people in the open relationship can agree to it. And they would need to agree that once their feelings start to get more serious, to let the other know. Open relationships really require a lot of honesty....and I'm not just talking about who youre with or where youre going, but about how you feel at all times. Once one person starts really getting serious, it'd be wise to let the other know so that feelings don't feel like they're being walked on. But other then that, if both persons have the discipline to do those things and have the respect for it, i don't think its a bad thing. It's a good way to test the waters and really get to know yourself better
