I think if you take up something that demands your concentration, that can make it easier to kick the addiction. Moving to where you cannot get what you want will help, but drugs are available in all of the large cities in the US as well as the small ones and in many if not most of the small towns. Having some other way to get your kicks will lessen the desire in the long run.

Actually I wasn't suggesting methadone, I was suggesting a sport that was all consuming or addicting. I have been around people on all sorts of drugs, so I have heard things well beyond the wiki definition of methadone, but I have never been to a methadone clinic.
