Is this just here? No. I have seen places in rural Southeast Asia where the men smoke, drink, talk and gamble and the women raise the children and the rice. The men may help out during harvest, but not too much. What a life - if you don't have any ambition. Mind you, this isn't everywhere. They must have a method to keep from feeling emasculated.

With women going to college and university here in the USA at greater numbers than men, it is easy to conclude that women are being more ambitious. And the men are loving it. They get a gf who works more than they do, brings in more money than they do, maybe is more educated, cleans, cooks and does the laundry and still has time to make them happy when the feel they want something. Oh yeah, if there is a baby, she gets most of the work related to that, too. And if they split up, since he never had a job that is worth much, he can't be got for a lot of child support. Kind of like "judgement proof".

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, Virginia -
In that case, who can blame a woman or a man for wanting a mate with ambition? The person with these preferences is just avoiding the examples that you described.
I wonder if there's some sort of stigma attached to those that have standards and preferences. I feel like there's pressure to just look at someone's personality and not care about anything else. Personality is one thing, but you can't ignore the realistic side of it."Dating is like slow dancing. Let the man lead, or you will fall all over your feet"Comment

This question has always intrigued me...
By "job" do most of you mean "provide an income" or something else?
Having had an entrepreneurial income stream for most of my adult life that has enabled me to do about anything I care to do while providing for my family, I have often wondered about getting a "real job".
So is it the ability to create/generate income that's important or is that just part of it and IYO, have I been "missing out" on being part of something much greater?
Not trying to steal the thread by any means, just curious...Comment
