So this is the explanation for the old, crabby man that lives alone!

Many of these older men are not widowers or
never married. Men were married but the allure
of the gal was so great he sacrificed everything
      and now is alone.

The fascinating thing is that in 99% of the cases,
it is the husband who ends the relationship for
some fleeting fancy, the wife who, at first, is
devastated, then, coming out of the debacle, finds
that she is the one in a much better place.
She is the one who was 'stifled' by her husband,
she was the one whose life was 'put on hold' for
        him.

Far from her having 'held him down', her departure
has him on his face, because the only part of forty
year old man that is attractive to a twenty year old
        female is his pocket.

Once the wife dumps him, young gal is certainly not
going to become Wife #2, unless the guy is a millionaire.

So he winds up losing his wife, the gal he never 'had',
and when he thinks, "Oh, old Maud will take me back.."
finds that 'Old Maud' is now Magnificent Maudy, and the
last man in the world she would tie herself to is him.

This is why, as Jubes notes, there are so many 'grumpy
        old men'.

I have heard this "horror story" over and over through the years...men leaving for younger women in their middle and older years. I have to tell you...even though my relationship is a fairly new one in my middle aged years. I am not the "young woman". We both had a divorce and are together starting over....However, I worry about around 5-10-15 years from now and if he will want a new, younger model to make him feel young at that time or whenever....but I am *not* going to bash here. LOL. The truth is, I know...no matter what.....life goes on.....and I will carry on.

              Al was married to Cora.
When he was 38 years old he began
an affair with twenty three year old Lynn.
After the Divorce, he married Lynn.

When he was 45 years old, he began an affair
with twenty year old Mara. He divorced
              thirty year old Lynn.

When he was fifty four, he began an affair with
twenty year old Nera. He divorced thirty year
              old Mara.

When he was sixty three, and got sick, Nera
took what she could, and got out of there,
becasue she had no intention of nursing an
old man when she was wasn't even thirty.

Cora, who had been divorced when she was
thirty five went on to refashion her life, did
well, met Jason when she was forty. He was
              thirty eight.

She looked good, she had to, for although the
two years difference in their ages wasn't even
noticable, she was 'afraid' a younger woman might
              'capture' him.

When Al got sick, Cora paid him a visit at the
hospital. She looked far younger than her sixty
years, (in fact she looked no more than a healthy
forty five), smiled at the old wreck in the bed.

He couldn't believe that he'd divorced this
              gorgeous together woman for Whatshername.

Cora felt blessed. She went home to her
Hot Jason, thankful that Al had divorced her
and she didn't have this miserable wreck of
an old man to look after.

So Al must not be familiar with the old saying, "What comes around, goes around."

I was listening to a radio show about 2 weeks ago, and they were speaking on relationships.
Well, this one guy was married and asked his wife to do something that, to me, was sick & disgusting and would cost some people their marriage.

Not only was I disgusted at what he asked her; but I was thoroughly disgusted that he asked her at such an inappropriate time: they were in a daycare facility picking up their young child.

Well, the wife did NOT agree to what he wanted her to do; and they had quite an ugly disagreement right there in the parking lot of the daycare center.

She took their child and left him standing there in the parking lot.

They got divorced and years had passed. When she got word of him, he was in a nursing home, sick to death.
He had no one to take care of him; all had shunned him because of what he was doing.
His family turned away from him; his children disowned him.

The wife--- the very one that he divorced because she didn't grant him his request--- was the only person to visit him in the nursing home on a regular basis.

On this deathbed, the only thing he had to say to her was this:

"I love you, but this is all your fault! If you had done what I asked you to do, I wouldn't be in this position."

He died after he got those words out of his mouth.

The ex-wife buried him. She had no regrets about turning down his request.

It is sad, and I hope I'm wrong, but I think there are a lot of men that have this mentality - that their wives are supposed to just do whatever it is they desire.
There is a method to my madness ........ I just haven't found it yet.

                    This is an excellent example.
"If you don't do what I want..."
as if he bought her in the market.

Too many women let themselves be stepped on like
this because their self image has been so eroded
there's no act beneath their dignity.

A friend of mine; (call her Marge) who worked with
me on a number of laws and women's issues was married
to an older man; she was his fourth wife.

This is exactly what happened; (it actually wound up
in the newspapers cause they are kind of famous)

                    In Bed
                    After Sex
He hands her a Divorce Petition.
He wants to marry a particular 25 year old...
(he's in his late sixties, Marge was in her forties)

                    Marge began to argue with him over property;
                    i.e. the big mansion.
(having changed the law matrimonial homes were
automatically imputed to be 50% regardless who
paid, and evidence could be presented to get
greater/lesser shares---this was the law we worked
                    on together.)

This led to the most acrimonious divorce attempt
                    ever...and when Bert, (husband) realised;
                    1) He would lose the house, (Marge had invested in
it while he invested in gal) the following things
                    happened.

Hot 25 year old realised she wouldn't get the house
but an old smelly man. She left.

Bert decided to withdraw his divorce petition.

Marge did not proceed with her counter petition.

Bert & Marge continued their marriage ...
                    Bert was diagnoised with leukemia.
He had two years to live..(or so)

Guess who was cleaning his backside?

I was so annoyed with Marge when she withdrew
her petition I stopped speaking to her. She was
a 'feminist' she worked with me on legislation,
she was always so pro woman.
                    But for herself?

This was a real judgement on Marge, for I would
have dumped the old boy in any convenient recepticle.

The sweet part was when Miss 25 realised that old
wifey poo would get most of the house and she'd
never get to drag her bumpers across the the parkay
                    floor...she was out of there.

Another woman, Angela, was along with Lou. She
found out about how he was running down young
girls. She packed up the kids and left.

Going through his second childhood, to impress
young gal, Lou bought himself a motorcycle.

                    He crashed and died.

Angela did NOT go to the Funeral. She did not pay
for it, she did not send a wreathe.

The young gal, who Lou had put up in an apartment,
moved out the day after he died. She did not identify
the body. That was done by his mother.

Gal was also not at funeral. The children Lou had
with Angela went but left early and did not go to
                    the set up after.

If Lou had not died, young gal would not have
been willing to tend him. He'd of wound up in
                    a hospice someplace.

Just like the example Fallen gave.

Studies have found that women live longer than men
because they usually have families. Many men over
the age of 60 live alone.

                    And there is reason why.
