We have a simular set up here, re:- your work, it will happen..and you Americans eat too much fatty things I swear you do, but thanks anyways

    Guess what time it is?

How can you sum us all up into one category? Not all Americans eat fast food everyday, which is where a lot of the fat is. I actually eat pretty healthy. You would be surprised. For example, whole grain pasta tossed with olive oil , feta cheese, and parsely or cilantro. Add some chopped grilled chicken and voila! What a lot of Americans eat at home is way different than what is served in restaurants. Yet there are a lot of obese Americans so I can see how it's easy to think that all of us eat poorly. Unfortunately, many do not know better and eat junk at home too. Homemade salsa, guacamole, beans, corn bread, tortillas, turkey, and baked fish. I eat of lot of these. And lots of fruit. Yum!

Oh hon, I have a warped sense of humor and that is all that was.....I often take the micky out of people that I am good friends with in America, especially when they send pictures of foods that they are eating which is all fat. I also experienced 10 days of eating over there, with a family...Here we have bacon no rind, over there it was strips of the rind with little bacon for instance.. I also went out for dinner and ordered corn, beans, vegetables in other words with fried fish and the whole plate was deep fried, all of it..... So yes, this is what I saw, experienced pretty much, junk food at home as well...Whilst there, I cooked stuffed capsicums, tomatoes and potatoes with rice/mince/herbs on a tomato based sauce, chinese, fried rice, scrambled eggs, tuna and salad, and bought fruit into the household

You know we are no different, those who choose Kentucky or McDonalds eat the same style of foods at home as well

As, I said it was more of a stir sweet...... We should have a thread started that asks people what their average meals consist of weekly? That would be interesting .....as we are across the oceans here...

Very true. I remember the McOz over there. And every place we went for some reason served us chips (french fries.) It was weird. I had to actually go out to a 711 to buy milk because I wasn't getting any in the places that were mapped out for us. My host family in New Zealand were the only ones to offer colored vegies, baked with pumpkin seeds on top. As for the people who had more rind than bacon, they didn't shop very well. You can definitely find good cuts of bacon here.

I can't eat chinese food very much. For some reason a lot of the oils and herbs that I'm not used to upset my stomach and the MSG gives me a migraine. I make my own egg roles (but they are Thai) and I can still eat won ton soup. That suits my fancy. I really like black bean salad, though. And couscous . . . to die for!

Your memory is amazing about being in Australia, 711 I would forget what they called an IGA store seriously

I think that the only store that they had was Wallmart maybe there was other bacon there but maybe it was more expensive or they preferred all the fat? IDK, I was just like, we don't sell that here in Aussie Land, off course we have rind but the bacon is there as well

With Chinese, I agree MSG is not good for you... I don't use it when I cook it... There are some amazing "Asian" recipes that don't have fat, I think I've asked this before and told no, it seems oyster sauce, mirin and hoi sin sauce is not really available over there, I think soy is... Soy and lemon make a great dressing.....

We have a recipe section here, care to put the egg rolls recipe on there? Please....

I make miso soup, japanese, soy bean and add what ever I want, usually broccolini, mushrooms and prawns..

I ewee hate couscous Polenta is nice though if you haven't tried that...Black bean? Kidney beans?

Oh, I hadn't thought of putting a recipe up, but I'll post that one. We have access to all of the sauces you mentioned in larger areas, but they are harder to find in the more rural areas which is where I am from. However, nearly everyone has internet access, if not, they can go to the library, to order things that are not available. Couscous can be grose if it isn't prepared the way you want it. I like it prepared some ways but hate it others. I have never tried polenta but looking at some pictures and recipes online, it looks tasty.

We have more than Walmart and IGA. If you can find a Whole Foods or farmers market when you come here next you will be much more satisfied. Growing up we had Piggly Wiggly, which sells a lot of what Southern cooks need. It's mainly local things. I grew up growing my own food so I'm picky about where things come from. I also got my meat from what my father hunted or fished or from Mr. White's meat market. He always sold quality meats. We did buy milk, cows milk, from the grocery store. Flour, sugar, and other things. Some canned goods. We froze or canned most of our harvests though. I actually have a mini garden on our apartment stoop. I've got basil, radish, parsley, and beans. Peppers too. Not much but it helps me feel more comfortable since I'm now in a bigger place.

Are you asking me a question about black beans and kidney beans? Those are two different beans.

I forgot that so many people purchase on line, I was looking for bone meal for Kia and noted that you may if you are lucky find it in the Health Shop, otherwise, it seemed only available on the Internet

I have to admit there is nothing better than fresh home grown tomatos, herbs, I'm dabbling with other things potatoes came up well last year, spinach I prefer them from the garden so does my other half seeing as he is a Chef...But, my family also fished and well, I would throw them back lols.

So I will have to look up black beans I've never heard of them.....

Thank you for the recipe I had a look and I'll give them a try, it sounds simular to cold rolls that we have here, which are rice paper...

Duh, remember all the Asian sauces I mentioned? Well black bean sauce is one of them

I'm not a huge fan of it it's a bit strong for me, but I may buy a can from the Asian shop and experiment perhaps with a Mexican dish and see what that's like
