    The Depo Shot

I started the Depo-Shot today, and I've been researching, I'm really worried about gaining wait, I maintain a healthy diet, and try to work out about 6 days a week. Do you think I will gain weight?
    Give me you feedback ladies.

    Thanks Lori!

    one word...

    RUN

and run fast. The depo made me gain weight like crazy, made me moody...and made me crave insane things...like steak....but not just regular steak...I wanted steak with ORANGE juice...together.wierd stuff happened while I was on the shot.
Im finally off the shot...and my periods are now so irregular.

The best way to describe what happens to you when you get on depo (like I have been) is that it tricks your body into acting like you are pregnant. Like acerousme said (and like it did to me) you will be hungery, moody, and gain weight. I was also very active and didnt eat junk, but I gaind about 35 lbs. in 2 years form it. Now that I am off of it I am having the hardest time lossing the weight and now that I got my period back it has been a big mess and very painful. I would never suggest depo because it is very unhealthy for you to inject so many hormos into your body that lasts for 3 months. I would suggest getting off of it and trying some other source of birth control. Good luck to you!
Life is like play dough, you mold it into what you want.

        Depo is a No NO

Actually depo puts you in a state very similar to menopause. It basically takes your period away, gives you weight gain, hair loss, loss in bone density, mood swings, etc...I mean wow---sounds a lot like menopause! I am 23 and I started depo when I was 16. I have been on it ever since. Way back then I was 16, 5'2 and 105lbs. I am now 23, 5'2 and 175lbs (atleast. I've been diagnosed with ostepenia, pretty much have osteoporosis, hypothyroidism, and anxiety). I was married at age 20 (weighed 126lbs) and have been Heck for my husband to live with. It made me extremely emotional. I'd be depressed about one thing and then get depressed about being depressed, then think about my weight gain and get depressed about THAT! It really did damage to my life. I've now gotten off depo for a month and a half and though I am taking my newly perscribed thyroid and depression meds, I haven't seen a change in weight but my emotions are MUCH better. Depo is a good short term answer (maybe 2 years max) but then you really need to change BC. Hope this helps

            Ohh dont continue....

I, much like all the other threads I have breifly read through, experienced a weight gain of 20lbs in 1 year. Its to get rid of too, not like normal weight loss. I have been off the shot for teh past 8 months and still have no sign of a period. It seriously disrupts your body, emotions, and god knows what else. I know it's such a convenient form of birth control (only having to worry about a 10 minute appointment every three months) but in the long run its so not worth it.

              depo

Hi i have never posted on a site before but am in the middle of researching depo.I am 37 and have been on the shot for 4 years and stupidly never realised that all my strange side effects were due to this evil toxic drug.
              Palpitations
              shortnesss of breath
              hot sweats
              anxiety
painful back and neck which constantly cracks
              etc etc
I really thought i was going mad, when i look back i havent been myself for 3 years, after investigating all other areas i can only conclude that depo is to blame. i was due for my jab 2 days ago and am really hoping that the so called withdrawal symptoms wont be too bad.I also know that my symptoms may take some time to go if they even do as the drug remains in your body for quite some time after.
I have recently found out that this drug is also used in some cases for sex offenders to lessen their libido!
i was never told the contra indications of taking this drug and i am angry that it looks as if i have been poisoning myself for the last 4 years.
PLEASE if anyone is reading this be aware this drug can in some cases be quite dangerous. i cant wait to feel myself again!

I know that everyone has different side effects to the shot, I guess it just depends on how your body reacts. I started the shot in January and im due for my next shot in May. I haven't had any rapid weight gain..yet but I have had nausea since I started it, it happens randomly. Also, I still have a period, it lasts around 4 or 5 days and is much lighter but still there. I bleed randomly too, not much but enough to notice. I'm not really sure if that helps, but thats my side effects

                  no no depo

                  hiya
I really hope your experience with depo is better than mine and hundreds of other women. i too started with nausea. If you start to experience any other weird symptoms go to your gp and let him/ her know. Remember it takes a long time for the drug to come out of your system if you do become sensitive to it hun.
As i said before do some research on it, ladies have to make their own mind up its your body and your choice, i just want others to know my experience and wish someone had advised me

I think it all depends on who you are. Depo has worked for me. I have not gained any weight, had not had any of the side effects that everyone else has mentioned. I don't get my periods at all, no cramping, nothing. I've been on Depo for about 3 years now and it's been the best. I actually did take Depo to try to gain weight, but it never happened.
