    questions

I was wondering if any of you that have the IUD were allergic to any of the birth control pills. I get hives really bad ever since I have had my 2 kids when i take them. The allergist said they wont test me to see if I am actually until I am off my allergy meds but that hard to do in the spring and summer months with the pollen and grass and trees. So if you were allergic to the pills, does the IUD work for you? Also, I know that many of you have said that your partner doesn't feel anything but I have a very personal question......my husband has "magic hands" (if you know what I mean) are you still able to mess around like that without pain to you, without messing up the position of it, and without your partner feeling it that much? I plan on going back to the gyno to talk to them but we are military so we are just 15 min slots to them and I would like to some information from the people who actually have one. Hubby comes home from deployment in June-ish and need to get this birth control situation figured out before he comes home and make up for a years worth of time together. LOL. Thanks!!!!

I suggest you talk to your gyno about Iuds. If your husband is coming back in June, Iuds have an adjustment period. Meaning that you may have bleeding or spotting for the first month. Or you may be one of the lucky ones who doesn't. For me getting the non-hormonal kind has been a breeze. I haven't had any issues with it since I got it inserted 6months ago. As for the (magic hands) just make sure that the strings don't accidentally get pulled.

I have the copper IUD and do not recommend it at all. I am 15 weeks pregnant. I am afraid of what the IUD will do during this pregnancy but the Dr.s say it will be fine that they have delivered many babies with IUD's stuck to there head. I guess they really dont work as well as they want you to believe. They cant remove it because it is embedded sideways in my cervix.

Worst mistake ever. My migraines started coming on all the time, I've had 20 in the past two months and I've been bleeding since January 7th and my new ob/gyn said I may not stop for another 3-5 months and that's when he brought up the IUDs. I was intrigued by paragard because it's hormone free, my only concern is reading about all the heavy bleeding considering I've already been on my period for over 2 months now. I'm just not sure how the paragard will do with that..my doctor didn't seem to be concerned but I'm just wondering if you guys have any thoughts?
I suffer from migraines with aura also and cannot take hormone anything. I have the copper IUD and it failed I am 15 weeks pregnant now. I really dont have any advice other than I hope all will work out for you. I never bled heavy with the IUD.

About a month ago I wrote in asking all about getting a Paragard (as a woman who doesn't want to use any hormones and has never given birth).

I just got mine inserted yesterday and it wasn't bad at all. I took 600mg ibuprofin about an hour before the procedure. My gyno described it as this before the procedure started - a pinch (when they measure your cervix) a cramp, a waiting period, then a cramp. The last cramp is the insertion. I just breathed through it, and it honestly wasn't any worse than a bad period cramp. I lay there for a few minutes, just to make sure I wasn't going to start cramping, and I was done. I had it put in on the last day of my period. I'm still spotting a little, but it's not even enough blood to merit a tampon. I haven't cramped at all since I had it put in. My boyfriend and I had sex this morning, and it was fantastic - no pain at all. And everything is still in place.

We'll see how it goes during my next period, but at this point I am willing to suggest Paragard to anyone not willing to mess with their hormones. My gyno said that a lot of the fears women (especially women who haven't given birth) have about IUDs comes from the old IUDs of the 70s. The new IUD is perfectly safe to use on women who have never given birth. It's more difficult to insert in some women, it's true, but you don't know until you try. If it hurts too much, just tell them to stop and try something new.

Anyway, wanted to thank everyone for their advice and let you all know how it went.

              Re: Paragard

I just had the Paragard put in two days ago and so far haven't had any problems. I had alot of concerns because it seemed so unnatural to have something like that in my body, but my doc put my mind at ease. It is important to find a doctor who has alot of experience with inserting IUD's. My major fear was perforation of the uterine lining. Through research I learned that this is extremely rare but the majority of the time, it happens at the time of insertion. My doctor told me that an experienced M.D. will check to see the size and angle of your uterus (mine is tilted back slightly and to the left) and will then angle the insertion tube in the direction your uterus is leaning. This prevents perforation from occurring--my doc has never had this happen with that method.

The reason I chose the Paragard is because I started taking Aviane (generic form of Alesse) in October, after I began dating someone and it was getting serious. I noticed after about a month that it was taking me a long time to have an orgasm compared to normal. From there it progressed to loss of sensitivity, and then after 4.5 months, complete loss of sex drive. I knew it had to be the pill, because the relationship was still new and I was still mentally attracted to my boyfriend, but my body wouldn't react. I wanted no part of hormones anymore!

Apparently, the copper on the Paragard kills sperm, and because you have the device in your uterus, it somehow tricks your body into thinking you're pregnant and won't allow implantation to occur.

I don't know if this is the information you're seeking, but I hope I helped a little. I will post updates if I have any problems, as I'm still a new user of Paragard!

                Ugh.

                Having my paragard removed tomorrow.

I still recommend this to ANY woman who wants to go off hormonal methods. But unfortunately it just didn't work for my specific body. Gave me constant yeast infections, pain, and a whole heck of a lot of menstruation.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but it's very rare that this happens. The iud being stuck sideways in your cervix must of happened during your insertion. Did you ever get an ultrasound to make sure it was in place or did your IUD shift ?

                      Removal

Well reporting back after the removal, if anyone's curious or might want to do the same down the road.

Doc quickly tugged on the strings and it was out in a split second. Literally. It was THAT easy.

All the problems I had associated with the IUD disappeared almost immediately, so, very happy about that.
