I'm new to this whole birth control thing...what do you recommend??

    Okay,
I just started taking birth control.
I was taking Yaz, but the truth is I'm a college student with 10 classes this past semester, and I would always forget to take my pill.
I'm just one of those people who forget things like that.
Luckily I didn't have any partner of sorts at the time.

I'm also very irregular when it comes to my period.
That's also one of the reasons I started taking BC. But when I kept missing to take it becuase of my busy schedule. It just made everything worse.

So I was wondering if there are any BC out there that someone would recommend that regulates periods, but it not a pill type???

I would love to have a general idea of what I want before I go in to visit my physician.

I used the depo provera shot for YEARS and it worked perfectly for me. Although, you should be aware that there are some very serious side effects like weight gain, moodiness, spot bleeding, and that if you take it for long periods it could take upwards of 2 years to be able to conceive again after stopping the shot.

From my experience (about 8 years), I had a bit of weight gain, but it was manageable by changing eating habits. I completely stopped having a period after the first couple shots. You only have to remember to go in once every 3 months for an injection, and it works (but it does NOT protect against STD's, just pregnancy).

There's also the Nuvaring and the patch, both of which I think are week long dose and then get replaced...

I'm scared of the shots lol.. so the Ortho Evra patch might work for you? Its easier than the pill and don't hurt like the shot. You just put the patch on and go on about your business.

I hated taking bc pills too, then used the nuva ring, which you use for 3 weeks out of the month. It's not hard to remember to remove or insert a new one. But as with any bc with hormones you risk the same side effects. Now I've chosen to go on the copper iud, hormone free and supposed to last up to 10yrs. You should definitely write down a list of things of what you want out of birth control and being that your a college student, figure out what the best schedule would be to using bc.
