copper T IUD question

i have a question for those who have had their copper IUD for a while now....

after the coppre IUD was inserted how long did you bleed or spotted for???

i have had mine for almost 2 weeks now and i am still bleeding a little.. i am just wondering about others who has the copper T

Hi, I had the copper iud inserted 1 year ago, it was very painful having it put in, i haven't had any children yet. Immediately after it was inserted, i felt sick, faint and had to open my bowels immediately. i was told that it can be a shock for the cervix when something is passed through it. I was taking strong painkillers, but still rolled around the floor on my knees for hours that day. I almost went to accident and emergency dept to get it removed. i managed to tolerate this coil, my periods have been about 50% heavier and 80% more painful, they also lasted for up to 8 days instead of 3 or 4 days like it used to be. My strings had to be cut short as i could feel them.
For the past month, i have had a dull pain/ache in my abdoment, became suspicious that it was the coil. I am about to attempt to conceive, knowing this, i made an appointment to have it removed. The doctor tugged at it but found that the strings were too short to get a good grip, in fact she broke the strings further. she said that i would have to wait a month for a gynecologist appointment to have it removed with local anaesthetic. I was not happy with this, so paid to have it removed privately, luckily the consultant gynecologist was able to remove it without anaesthetic, it was alot easier to cope with than the insertion. He said that the coil had become embedded in my womb, was actually upside down! There was quite a bit of bleeding after. I was able to have intercourse the following day, so it can't be that bad.
I won't be having this again, will have to re think my options as like many women, i do not get on well with the pill because of the hormones affecting my mood and sex drive, and giving me headaches.

Copper IUDs

Hello all!

I have a copper IUD since May 08 and I love it because I no longer have extra hormones that I do not need and I don't have to think about birth control. I did a lot of research, and of course asked a lot of questions to my doctor and other women that have either of the IUDs.

I did not have any problems with the insertion (have no kids), just a little cramping. The doctors were actually surprised, but I think I just went in with the mentality that I would be fine and to not tense up. I haven't had any problems with heavy bleeding, long periods, or bleeding in between. In fact, I have had shorter periods, that are right on schedule.

I think it's interesting how different our bodies can be, where some bodies reject or do not like the IUD, and some have no issues at all. I think the best option for those who have had or are having issues is to contact the doctor that inserted the IUD or your current OB/GYN.

I just had a copper IUD inserted yesterday, and wanted to share my experience, since this forum really helped me decide whether or not to get the copper IUD in the first place. I did a lot of research before making the decision to do this, so thanks to everyone who has posted about IUDs!

The reason I joined this forum is to share something that I hadn't read anywhere. I fainted after the procedure. I have never fainted before, and I crunched the back of my head pretty hard on my mother's slate floor.

I called the doctor when I came to - I'm not sure how long I was out, and no one in my family even heard the crash, so they didn't even know I had passed out. My Dr. called it something that sounded like a "Vego Reflex". I didn't hear exactly what he said, since I was just coming back to consciousness, but that's what it sounded like. He said when something like an IUD passes through the cervix, women may experience a sudden drop in blood pressure, resulting in anything from dizziness, to a full-out fainting episode.

So just a word to the wise, don't drive after getting an IUD. I was so thankful that I had just driven to my parents' place, which was in the same town as my doctor. If I had driven further to my own house, I would have fainted while driving.

Aside from the fainting, everything seems fine. The procedure was a little painful. I just tried to breathe and relax my abdomen as much as possible. The cramping is pretty bad, and I'm spotting, of course. But really, nothing that I hadn't expected. I'm hoping the cramping stops, but it is kind of nice to have my BF doting on me for a while!

I finally found what my Dr. was talking about - you can look up either "Vasovagal Reaction" or "Vagus Reflex" to read about the possibility of fainting after the insertion of a copper IUD.

Copper IUD (Nova-T)

Hello. Thought I'd share my experience, because I was a bit worried after reading negative experiences.

I've had the Nova-T for 2 months now without any issues Since I've never been pregnant, I was worried about the pain of insertion. However, my gynecologist gave me misoprostol pills to insert vaginally the night before, and the day of, to soften my cervix. He also told me to take an Advil before the insertion too. I did this, and only felt a single cramp during insertion. Not bad at all! And I didn't suffer any pain afterwards, so no need for painkillers. My period lengths have remained the same as when I was on the Pill, and the bleeding is not any heavier. The only thing as expected, is I never know exactly which day I'll get my period, but hey, that doesn't bother me -- I'm no longer taking hormones! And I don't need to remember to take a daily pill. Woo hoo!

I got my iud on the 7/27/09. I had a vasovagal episode. NOT FUN!!!! and it felt like labor pains. NOT FUN EITHER!!! but the bleeding wasn't that bad and the cramping is less every day but, here's my question, My uterus feels like it's being poked when I bend over. Not all the time but some times. by the end of the day being on my feet for 12 hours I'm cramping. I'm wondering how normal is this. I know our bodies are all different with different experiences but still. It's kinda a pain. :confused

Umm yeah I had that happened for good 2 weeks or more. It hurt to bend to even button up pants. eeek...

But it went away after 2-4 weeks. The more i read the more i realize our bodies hate foreign object and will do ANYTHING to get it off. Ive been having infections for the past month and Im so close to snap...but i really want to give it a good try cuz otherwise i really dont know what else i could do.

Hello everyone ur posts are really enlightening at least someone understands what i m going thru. Had a copper iud inserted 30 july 2009 its been 5weeks of pain....first during insertion and after wards the cramps and pain is unbearable went back twice to the nurse who put it in all to no avail as she dismissed me and said it was normal....and expected for first 6 months of insertion. My husband was even worried that i might have an infection as the pain is unbearable. Now my periods are HEAVY going thru super tampon every hour and its so scary. Today i noticed the plastic part after strings sticking out of cervix m soo scared now....will c dr 2moro.this iud stuff is so complicated had i known how bad it would be i wouldnt have but being in South africa now they do not offer norplant/implanon which i prefere....
