    Copper 7 IUD

I had a Copper 7 IUD (made in Canada) put in, in 1987. At the time my doctor said I could keep it for the rest of my life. Before menopause the doctor I saw told ( in 1997) me there was no such thing and I must be mistaken. Finally a doctor believed me and wants to take it out. Has anyone ever had this kind of experience. Comments and insights appreciated. Should I have it removed and why? It has never bothered me.Thank you

The Copper 7 IUD by Searle was withdrawn in January 1986 after numerous lawsuits (source: Los Angeles Times 1989 article). As best I could find, it was supposed to have a long life but not be a rest of your life solution.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
