  • Copper 7 IUD

I had a Copper 7 IUD (made in Canada) put in, in 1987. At the time my doctor said I could keep it for the rest of my life. Before menopause the doctor I saw told ( in 1997) me there was no such thing and I must be mistaken. Finally a doctor believed me and wants to take it out. Has anyone ever had this kind of experience. Comments and insights appreciated. Should I have it removed and why? It has never bothered me.Thank you

  • The Copper 7 IUD by Searle was withdrawn in January 1986 after numerous lawsuits (source: Los Angeles Times 1989 article). As best I could find, it was supposed to have a long life but not be a rest of your life solution.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
