The body hair isn't that bad but the bumps and ingrown hairs I get from removing it is. My face is so scarred that I cant leave the house without makeup. I guess trying so hard to remove it has caused me to dig out ingrowns with tweezers. Now my skin is damaged. I'm skinny with no weight problems. I have an IUD so periods are not normal. I'm taking saw palmetto hoping it will help.

I'm 23 with facial. neck, stomach, bikini, chest, and nipple hair....just like a man. I don't realize when it started, 15 or16 maybe. I had my 1st and only daughter when I was 18. The hair on my face is so thick its painful to touch. I do everything I can to control it. I model but I feel so ugly. The hair has taken away my confidence to the point where I can't live my life like I want.

Possible Cysts
As much as I would not wish this problem on other women, I'm glad we can share our experiences and frustrations here. I hope my experiences below are helpful to some of you....
I just turned 25 and have had facial hair problems for several years now. At first it wasn't that bad...a couple stray hairs on my neck and jawline which I'd pluck. I also used to have very irregular periods since puberty - generally over 6 weeks between periods. Once I went 3 months without having a period and got so worried I went to see my doctor. She suspected I might have had an ovarian cyst and sent me for an ultrasound. They found a 5cm dermoid cyst on one of my ovaries, but since it did not pose an immediate threat, my doc left the decision to remove it up to me. I opted not to have it removed since I'd rather not have surgery if I didn't have to, plus I was in university at the time and did not want to deal with the stress of that.
Later, the hair growth became more pronounced, with more, thicker, darker, longer strands on my neck and jawline, a few on my breast and a lot on my lower stomach. I have to resort to sugaring/shaving/depilating/plucking - whatever will get rid of the hair, but am yet to try laser cuz of the cost. I tried electrolysis with a home kit a handful of times but it was too time-consuming and kinda painful. I'm very self-conscious about the hair on my face and even wearing clothes that show my stomach cuz you can see the stubble in between hair removal regimes. I've also got scarring on my neck and jawline from ingrown hairs that I've picked at with tweezers or my nails because I could not stand the way they looked and felt. I prefer to wear my hair down covering the sides of my face so people can't see the hair/scars. I would really like to try something that will treat the underlying cause and prevent future growth/ clear the scarring - suggestions are welcome.
About 2 years ago my doctor prescribed oral contraceptives to help regulate my periods and there was also the possibility that they'd help with the hair growth. At first I was on tri-cyclen lo then switched to Yaz a couple months after, when I suspected tri-cyclen was causing me to gain weight. None seemed to help with the hair growth though and I actually think it might be slightly worse than when I started taking them. I also continued to gain weight and over the past two years have gained over 30 pounds (I was originally about 130 pounds). My mother expressed to me that she had the same result with weight gain when she started taking oral contraceptives, losing the weight when she went off them and we have similar body type, but I don't think she had problems with hair growth. I stopped taking the pills a little over a month ago to see if the weight gain will subside, but it's too early to tell. I had wanted to try the oral contraceptive Diane-35 which I've read contains anti-androgens that help with the hair growth, but my doctor said it's usually prescribed if acne is a problem and could not prescribe it for me since I did not have trouble with acne.
I've read that ovarian cysts can produce hormones that cause the effects such as irregular periods, increased hair growth, weight gain, etc. and the weight gain can then compound these problems. So as mentioned by some other posters, it would be a good idea to see your doctor to determine if you have PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome), which if treated may help with these problems. I myself am planning to have my cyst removed sometime in the future with the hopes that it will alleviate some of the hormonal and hence hair issues I've been experiencing. I'm also starting a fitness plan and improving my diet to reduce my weight back to what it was 2 years ago to see if it also helps. If it doesn't, I may have to resort to laser hair removal when I can scrape together the money for it. I recently learned from my older sister (she's 28) that she also has issues with some stray facial hairs and more on her lower abdomen which she periodically shaves, which indicates it might be something hereditary - so it might be helpful to check with other women in your family if they face similar issues.Comment

unwanted hair.
hi. i'm 19 and i have hair on my upper lip chin and now on my cheeks and around the nipples.
i plucked my nipple-hairs and now they are much worse cos they're thick. i also did laser on my legs last year and it doesnt seem to be working. i havent gone for a blood test but if it turns out that a do have poly is there a way to regulate the hormones and prevent all this unwanted hair and hassles? i hate taking medication but this problem has been bothering me for the last year and now i'm super conscious. thank you.

I'm 21 years old and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome a few months ago. This would CLEARLY explain the crazy man, sand paper, dark, disgusting facial hair!! I'm soo frustrated at this point. I feel like I can't get intimate or even close to anyone because they may notice. I have no choice but to shave on the daily since it's too short to wax and I REFUSE to let it grow long enough to wax. It's soo dark, it's VERY noticeable if I don't shave at least once a day. I'm at the point where sometimes I have to shave twice a day!!! I can't go on dates without being soo self conscious of this. I seriously feel like my only option is electrolysis at this point and I'm thinking of making an appointment for a quote/estimate. BLAHHHH! How can I feel feminine when I have a beard growing out of my chin it!! Anyways. I needed to vent. Thank you. lolComment

I use waxing to treat the facial hairs but I read in an advertisement about new coming technology to remove facial hairs. The name is no!no! that change hair removal routines by bringing home professional technology. It reduces hair growth by up to 94%- no matter your skin type or skin color.Comment

hi!
I know this is an older thread but just wanted to say I work at a salon and Im the go to wax lady(LOVE IT!) Let me tell you its extremely common and I get ladies young and older, thin and curvy, etc etc who come in with lip, chin, neck, side cheek hairs. Some are really bad and some have the strays. Its extremely common!
Dont let it take away from you being you. Be aware of your body and if its really bad out of the normal go see a doctor otherwise look into hair removal. Waxing isn't the best way but a lot of people do it.
I'm 22 and been getting the dark thick random strays for awhile. I usually just pluck them but now that I'm getting busy with work I'm looking into laser or something a little better.
Just know youre not alone, its normal, and honestly I never notice them until I get right in someones face!Comment
