I am 30 years old and have never suffered with BV ,thrush, any kind of bacterial infection until 3 months ago when I was told by my GP that I had BV after she took a swab for testing
She prescribed me metrozindale which did not help and I went back to my GP and she was not really much more of a help to me, she said that if it is not bothering me too much then the vagina is self cleansing and that it will go away on it's own .Ok for her to say that, she isn't the one putting up with it.
I do have a sperm allergy and although my husband and I are very careful we did have a slip up last week and as a result I got the BV back again as well as suffering from the allergy side effects. There is very little discharge though this time but more the smell that bothers me and a friend of mine suffers from BV all the time and she had come across a product last year called Aci-Jel which balances out the ph levels in the vagina and if you suffer from BV a lot and have unprotected sex, the vagina is acidic and semen is alkaline so when the two mix it can put the normal vaginal PH levels out of whack and in turn cause BV to come back and the fishy smell from the two reacting or even worsen the symptoms but as many are aware BV is not always caused from having intercourse as it can pop up at any time and even after menstruation but mostly it is a pH inbalance that causes it
Aci-jel can be bought over the counter at pharmacies, and my friend swears by it and uses it daily and has not had the BV back in almost 12 months and she suffered with it all the time over the past 5 years.
I tried the Aci-Jel 3 days ago and my symptoms and the smell were cleared up within 24 hours, I was amazed because not even the antibiotics were helping me that fast when I got the BV the first time.
I don't know if it works for everyone but it is worth a try.
I have read a few other forums that I had googled and there are a lot of women that say they have also used the Aci-Gel and swear by it as well.
If you can maintain the normal ph levels on a daily basis within the vagina, which this product is specifically for then the bad bacteria that takes over causing the BV is less likely to occur.
The lady at the pharmacy also told me that it is great for those that suffer from thrush as well by using it daily it will help prevent any of the nasty bacterias from taking over.
I'm going to continue using it on a daily basis just to ensure that I never get this again, like I said though I have only suffered from it twice and that's enough for me, I hope this gel continues to work and that I never get it back again.

      Chronic BV

I too suffer from the same exact problem. It is as if I am allergic to my boyfriend of 10 years, I have had other partners and this was never an issue. Have you gotten any remedies?

I get the same answers from all doctors: flagyl, no douching, cotton underwear, wipe front to back, etc... Nothing seems to work. It comes on shortly after my cycle, and leaves shortly before I start again. So, out of every month I only have about 4-5 days of bliss! My diet has not changed my entire life, nor has anything else. My husband and I have both been treated - to no avail. The only wierd thing is that he is the only man I have had this trouble with. In my previous marriage and other monogamous relationships I have never experienced this. I dated this man (my current husband) in the past - and developed BV; ended the relationship - no BV. We are together again (since 2002) - and guess what - BV!!!!! I'm wondering if my PH levels are being thrown off by his bodily fluids? He understands there's nothing I can do - but it's soooooooo UN-sexy! I'm trying yogurt - orally and vaginally - I hope it works - even if I have to do this every month.................it will be much better than "leaking and smelling"!! Any advice would be great - thanks

a question on physique and recurrent BV

This might seem odd, but I'm reaching here for causes. In the past few months I have started to get a recurrent unyeilding BV, regardless of following all the advice typically prescribed, so here's a question. I think I've gained a lil bit of weight, some of it happily has attached itself to my thighs, and more so the lovely region between my thighs. Is there anyone else who has noticed an increase in body physical size being coincident with increases in occurence of BV. I'm wondering if it's merely warmer in the vaginal area because my body doesn't breathe as well as when I was lighter, resulting in a much happier place for bacteria to blossom? It is entirely possible that I am completely off of my rocker too.. but as I said earlier, I am reaching.
        Thanks in advance!

          Thank GOD

I am so excited to see so many people suffering....I have been suffering for a year now..... I thought my dr. just didn't know what to do, but it sounds like you all have been through the billions of treatments that last a week.

I am planning on using all the ideas that many of you said worked for you. Just bought some herbal stuff that was sited that worked. I am willing to spend whatever and do wnatever I need to...... I pray to God something works.

Besides the herbal stuff, I am going to watch my sweet intake and excercise more. I will beat this horrible little monster. I just need to figure out how. I have started acting like it doesn't exist...It is not taking over my life. I don't wear panties...which helps and am constanly airing it out. I refuse to let this thing win. I hope most of you feel the same and will continue fighting and not giving up. I mentally think that getting depressed makes it stronger and it brings down the immune system.

Well, here goes trying these ideas for a couple weeks, and then on to the next idea. Good luck in your fight.

            frustrated and tired

I am curious of a couple of things. The silver I am assuming is a pill form and must be over the counter like vitamin? Also, I dont ever know I have this until I am starting to have intercourse and bingo here is the odor. Once in a while if I have a lot of female discharge I might catch it but rare. It is mostly noticed during intercourse so this is most embarrassing. I am 43 had a hysterectomy and going thru early menopause. my doctor says it PH imbalance but I just treated this with oral flagyl june 1 and now have it again.... Im so frustrated. I just want to be able to have a normal sex life and be confident that it wont be there next time.
            Help......

The next morning- still normal. 2 days later - still normal.

I got the idea from a friend.
I am still taking the silver every other day... and I am sooooooooooo happy.

I also hear that some women are allergic to sperm- it throws off PH balence.

I am a 26 year old virgin so luckly I dont have that problem.... but maybe not for long if this BV stay away.

The sure is Flagyl. I had a hysterectomy done in Jan '05 and ever since I constantly get BV. My problem started becoming repetetive when I was diagnosed with diabetes in Oct '05...With those 2 together, believe me I really hate being a girl right now!!! when I started noticing the pattern, my Dr. gave me the Flagyl, and since then I always wear loose fitting clothes, cotton undies and when I'm home I make sure to let everything breathe....To this day I still get constant yeast infections, but that's mostly because of my surgical menopause...hope this helps..

i have all the same symptoms ...except a fishy odor, is this chronic BV or perhaps something else? my doc says its allergic vaginitis...but i follow all the rules. i had my vaginal PH tested last week and it was at 5.0, seeing my doc again this week for more tests. i've been living with this reocurring nightmare for close to a year now, and its really affecting my sex life and making me depressed. my doc has now recommend i start inserting boric acid capsules, which worries me since i haven't really found anything about this treatment online. has anyone heard of this treatment?

Boric acid is a safe way to bring your ph back down to around 4. There are very little if any side effects from using.

I hope you all get this soon. I switch between yeast and BV. My nurse practictioner said to try "RepHresh" after my periods and after sex. Well I did that and not even two weeks later, I have BV again. SO, when I was reading the box, it says that you can use this stuff every 3 days. I am going to do that. Wednesday, I have an appointment to get more meds for this BV **** and a pap-smear, so Wednesday night, I will start my RepHresh every 3 days. Try that and see if it works.
