After splitting up with my boyfriend of two years i was on the rebound and had sex with another guy. After the first couple of occasions i noticed a foul smell to my vaginal discharge - a strong disgusting fishy smell which i have never ever experienced before. We used protection (condoms) every time so i was shocked at this foul smelling discharge and thought surely i could not have a STD. I went to the doctor who did an internal examination and tested me for thrush, BV, gonorrhea and chlamydia and to my surprise all came back clear.

Even after my results came back clear my problem was not clearing up. I was convinced i had symptoms of BV so purchased some 'balance activ' from my local chemist which is a week long treatment were gel is inserted before you go to bed. After this week long treatment my symptoms did go away for a few days but then came back. I have since got back with my boyfriend and this problem is becoming a real pain. I have treated myself again with the gel only for it to go away for a few days and come back once again. I am concerned that as i tested negative for BV that this foul smelling discharge could be an early symptom of cervical cancer as i really dont know what else it could be.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or help from people who have experienced something similar to my situation. Also i have no other symptoms accompanying the foul smell - no rash no burning no redness etc.

I would definitely go back to your gyno. If the problem persists, and you're worried then they have to take you seriously. Does the discharge have any color or anything? You may have to see a new doctor about it to be taken seriously, but you need to. Especially because this has to do with your health.
