Experiencing spotting after coming off the pill?

    Hi Ladies!!

I am hoping someone can help me out on this. Just a short background for my question......I am now 20 years old. I got my first period at 16 and was very very irregular. Things started to improve SLIGHTLY once I turned 18, but things were never regular. So I went on the pill to help regulate my period and clear acne. I went on the pill for a few months and didn't like that one, so I stopped it and didn't start birth control again until January of 2011. I have been on Ocella ever since then, so about a year and 1/2.

Well, due to side effects such as complete loss of sex drive, headaches, moodiness, etc. I have decided to stop the pill (at least for a while) and see how my body reacts. I took the last birth control pill on Sunday July 8th and got my withdrawal bleed on Thursday July 12th through Saturday July 14th. I thought I was totally done til today, I had some brown spotting in my underwear. Why would I be experiencing this? Also, do you believe there is a chance my periods may become regular on their own even if I was irregular before the pill?

    Thanks so much

Completely normal. Your body has to readjust and you can experience spotting for a few months. The brown discharge is old blood, it is completely normal and can happen before or after your period.

There is the chance your periods will become normal on their own, only time will tell.

Thanks so much! :-) I really hope my periods will become regular on their own. I guess I will just have to wear a pantyliner so that the spotting doesn't catch me off guard.

Hi, I am 25 yrs old, I got married in December 2011. Before getting married I got myself checked as I had irregular menstruation, there was a pcos problem, though very little. I started taking a contraceptive Femilon and only this month I discontinued it after taking it for 6 months. While I was on the pill I had perfectly regular menstruation and no spotting, but now that I have discontinued it I had spotting on the 10th day from the last period.
Please tell me if this is normal, and should I consult a gynac for the same. Your advice will be really helpful!
