Hi, im new here and i wanted to take up something personal i encounter often while i play World of Warcraft. (it can probably be any other way of online interaction/game/chat ect).

Well when outing myself as female player i get a lot of "wrong attention", all of a sudden i get called honey, kitten and even milf, but i also get spat on. I find it very disturbing what i had to read in whispers directed to me. When i ask how old these guys are i got to know they were between 16 and 19.

I overhear /overread general discussions boys are having about women. They refer to them as es and ****s. I got into a discussion with a boy who things all drunken girls are easy and only want one thing.

Where is that coming from? I get sexualisized the moment i out myself as female. I feel degraded when they start asking me intimate things, i feel violated when i get immoral offers ect.

I know guys feel strong and arrogant behind a computer screen that protects them from real consequences. But i find the trend very disturbing that young men have such distorted images of girls /women and a unhealthy attitude towards sex.

I need some help on how to counter such zar behaviour.

There are 9 million ppl that play that game you are gonna run into all types of ppl . You are just running into ppl with lil to not respect for self so don't expect them to respect others.

Ignore their comments and if all else fails change servers. i've played WoW and all but a few are great ppl.

Hi Madulain, I'm a man myself and I've seen it to, and I believe it's sad. The problem I see it has affected many of our young girls. If you come across this where you have to converse with someone that is that way to me the best thing to do is to speak up and put them in their place so to speak, of course with Grace. This will instill your integrity.

I apprreciate the women on this site, they have heart of Gold but yet Steel Magnolias. I would'nt think of doing and saying things like that.

I would like to say you will feel genuinely respected here. I believe the men here respect women as being a vital part of the Human Race (not because of Sex)
but because what they contribute to the Society as a whole.

Those are more comments than advise I guess but I feel you pain as much as I can by being a man. I'm trying to put myself in a position if women were to talk about us Men in some degrading fashion - Good Thread

The thing is when i ignore them i feel i empower their behaviour. I wanna take a hammer and hang some respect for women into their skulls. And i wanna tell them i dont find it ok that i get degraded by them.

Feels like rap music and hentai has an influence on how young men develop their view on females.. at least i feel like that.

Much of it it do to all the trash on the internet, things their age or sometimes any age should not be watching - I'm not trying to censor but you get my driff?

Hmmm.

There is obviously a combination of factors at play here. Most MMORPGers are 15-20 year old guys, who are young and stup1d, and obviously aren't getting laid because they spend their lives behind a computer screen. So, they will obviously hit on girls they find in the virtual world, they don't really have a choice about it .

Insofaras general discussion of women beind derogatory, I think that when people are in relationships, they always have something bad to say about the other, and in the completely anonymous internet they can get their whining done without it ever getting back to him. So those in relationships probably will be calling them b1tch.

Hentai.... hahah, well, yes.

I mainly just think that most people who play WOW are nerds that are angry with women because they all leave them alone.

I understand the mechanism behind nerdy gamers thinking they are James Bond and i understand ur tougher being anonymous. What i dont understand is that "" for example has become a more and more normal word to name a female. I can understand that its used in anger when u have an unhappy realtionship, but that is not the topic here.

I know what you mean there...If I play call of duty on Xbox live with the microphone headset, as soon as they know its a girl playing they target me!!

So, I get my bf (who sadly is a call of duty master) to play while I talk. It's satisfying for me to think that all these boys are being disheartened because their all being owned by a girl when secretly...their not! but whats a little white lie?

Back in the day when there were certain classes girls didn't take and subject they didn't study - I did. A wise teacher told me, " I think you belong here, you have an aptitude for it, but I can't follow you around and make the boys behave. Do what ever it takes" In other words if you are going to play with boys (these don't sound like real Men) you are going to have to make them toe the line. That's harder to do online than in person. Ignoring them is one way but as you've found not very successful.

Why do you have to let them know you are female? Can you beat them? Your best bet may be to play better than they do. Beat the socks off them if you can. Then let them know you are a girl, if you feel you must. In a perfect world it shouldn't matter, but these aren't perfect people in a perfect world. You could try mastering snappy come backs and insults too, if that suits. Being cyber you could work out a pretty good list before you need them. Of you could try turning it on them, being super, super sweet. Make them complete jerks for being anything but nice to you.

I know what I would want to do, and again I'm a male. I'd want to beat them their Game, on the other hand I can see one becoming obsessed with the idea of beating them. I don't think you said but are you beating?
