I know there are studies to show everything, but there are studies that show that the pain the baby suffers breaks parent-child trust and leads to a less healthy relationship. Also, people who say children 'sleep', through the operation are wrong, they pass out because they can't handle that much pain. -
I have to disagree that it breaks the parent-child trust relationship.. my parents and I are very close, always have been. And when we did argue or fight, I never remember yelling at my mom "I wouldn't be in jail today if you had of left my alone when I was a baby!"......lolLast edited by Little; 12-31-2008, 08:12 AM.Comment

We were created a certain way....yes....and as women, we are often forced by society to modify ourselves daily for the pleasure of others. I can only speak in regards to American's here, but from the time we are old enough to know even what being a woman means, we are shaving probably half our entire body nearly every day. Every day....hop in the shower, carefully shave the legs, shave the underarms, shave/trim up the genital area. Because it certainly wouldn't be considered acceptable by most eligible men for us to have long leg hair or underarm hair. Then comes the tweezers where we must keep our eyebrows groomed. Oh and don't forget to tweeze the random black hairs that grow from our chin....neck, or even chest! Because we, as women, are expected to be a certain way FOR men. And also don't forget the MANY women who at the request of their husbands and boyfriends, are cut open at the chest to have plastic bags inserted in order to have larger breasts. OR the many women who have labia surgery because maybe theirs are larger than the norm and they experience humiliation as a result.
The point is whether right or wrong, we do modify our bodies for social acceptance, and for various other reasons. I try not to judge those who choose differently than me, as I don't think it's fair to judge a man or woman for choosing to or not to circumsize their child. We all reserve the right to live our lives differently from the next person.....that's just the way it is. In other countries there are girls who have their feet bound in order to keep them small, girls who are sold into prostitution before even hitting puberty, children who's bodies are modified in very extreme ways to make them a certain way.
While I appreciate passion for any subject, I think it's important to embrace your opinion with enough confidence that you don't feel the need to degrade or insult others for having an opinion different than your own.
Just a thought....Comment

I'm not saying that children even know their foreskin is missing, or that they consciously blame their parents. I'm saying that on a deeper, unintellectual level a part of the trust is broken. It's not even something that you'd be aware of.I have to disagree that it breaks the parent-child trust relationship.. my parents and I are very close, always have been. And when we did argue or fight, I never remember yelling at my mom "I wouldn't be in jail today if you had of left my alone when I was a baby!"......lol
Excuse me, are you trying to say that the fact you shave your armpits to feel attractive is the same as surgically removing a vital organ from a baby without it's consent is the same? I can see where you're coming from, but you're talking faeces here.Originally posted by Beautiful DisasterWe were created a certain way....yes....and as women, we are often forced by society to modify ourselves daily for the pleasure of others.
What you seem to be forgetting here - and I'll make it obvious for you:
CONSENT
CONSENT
CONSENT

In fact I have so much confidence in my own opinion that I see it as my right and duty to explain to others that they are wrong. If my words are heeded, there will be less human suffering in this world. What greater cause is there than that?
Respecting peoples incorrect opinions is an overrated tool of weak, boring living.Comment

Perhaps you didn't read carefully, but rather jumped in to point out where you "think" I'm wrong before actually taking in what I said. Had that not been the case, you would've clearly understood that I at no point said that circumcision was the "same" as a woman shaving her armpits. I will not spend time reiterating, as I have clearly explained in my posting above.
I (as many others here) am a strong intelligent female. In no way does the fact that I choose to "agree to disagree" or respect the opinions of others make me a weak or boring person. Frankly, if we all adopted the same beliefs and opinions, THAT would create boring living.
I never stated that I DISAGREED with your passion or opinion, I disagree with your means of trying to get your point across with rude disrespectful responses to others.Comment
