The vasectomy was my own personal 40th birthday present.

I'm way past the follow ups and the re-checks.

That was my ex also. She had had troubles for years prior to our divorce. Even when I did get it I knew that I was going to be single in the very near future. It was a choice I made.

It's not the vasectomy itself. It's exposure to unnecessary risk, especially for something elective. Anytime a knife is applied to the body it's risky. I'm just old fashioned that way, I guess.

To see the risks associated with a vasectomy, google "vasectomy complications."

But, like I said, I'm willing to do it to allow her get off the pill and hopefully increase her sex drive.

I got a copper IUD about 2 years ago after being on the pill for a very long time. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself. My libido has returned full force. It has been great except for my husband. I think he should get off the pill. haha!!!

Another note of reassurance re a vasectomy. I had mine almost 10 years ago once we decided we were finished having kids. I too was worried how the thought of being infertile would affect my libido and was apprehensive about performance, etc.

As it turns out my worries were completely unfounded. As a matter of fact, eliminating the background worry that she might get pregnant again was liberating for the both of us and made sex just that much more relaxed.

There are tons of risks with taking the pill as well. And loss of sex drive is just one of many.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was going to say. Putting drugs in our bodies to regulate such a natural thing as menstruation is not much different than the risk of a minor surgery. Childbirth is Wayyyyyy more dangerous!

Women have been taking the risks all along. Getting pregnant is a risk. Pregnancy is risky. Delivery is risky. The pill is risky (I started clotting after several years). A tubal is more invasive than a vasectomy. Some other methods of conception control are risky. I wish there were more options for men to share the both ability and responsibility for conception control.

Weighing the risks of all methods discussed above, Vasectomy has the least, and is so far the most that a man could do to take a more aggressive role in the matter of procreation and control thererof.

                    V

Hubby had the big V over 25 yrs ago. Did not effect his sex drive at all!
But now he has some ED. May be because of his age and script drugs.
He can not always keep it hard for a whole session. Some times he has to finnish himself off without an erection. But he always trys to make sure I get mine.
IE, plays or goes down. I know this bothers him and I try to not say anything
But sometimes I feel like I have failed him.

I was on the bc pill for 13 years and I never realized my sex drive was diminished until I got off. I have an amazing sex drive now. My bf has had a vasectemy before I ever met him, which is the reason I don't have to take it anymore. He swears that his orgasms are more intense since the vasectemy but I think thats all in his head. Either way, it didn't effect sex in a negative way for him. I agree with most of the other posters. Pregnancy, childbirth, and the birth control pill all come with risks. She has done all that so far, mabye now you could take on the responsibility of birth control for the relationship.
