So I'm going to get the vasectomy sometime soon.

I've heard that the initial cut (or is it the application of local anesthetic?) hurts like a mother (edit). Ouch! Not looking forward to that. I'll find a doctor on my insurance plan that has done a LOT of vasectomies. The odds of complications are greatly reduced with an experienced doctor. (I know, I state the obvious, but the research I've done I found stats for stuff like that)Last edited by LanaBear; 02-09-2010, 11:38 AM. It's no worse than any other shot. Once it's numb, you won't feel a thing. It'll be over before you are even aware that he's doing anything.
It will be sore for a couple of days at most. It's a couple of stitches. After about a week when you go and do the follow up and the semen sample says zero, then it good to go.
At worst, you may not want to have sex for a couple of weeks. At worst.Comment

My bf said that it really didn't hurt much at all. Probably depends on your own level of pain tolerence. But I bet it hurt pretty bad when your wife gave birth.“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.†- William Arthur WardComment

Sex with a man who has had a vasectomy is great. As long as you have a monogamous relationship, it's No worries. I suspect a lot of the women we get posting here with all sorts of sexual problems that are probably due to artificial hormones or stress would find themselves much better off if the man in their life had a vasectomy.Comment

My DH agrees there is pain during the procedure but nothing that is not manageable and it does not last long... Again... try having contractions for 12+ hours... If you are done having children a vasectomy is not a bad idea and EVERYTHING has risk. If it is something you are willing to do then go for it, if not, then you can not totally blame your wife especially if the BC really is affecting her.Comment
